I can't imagine England or Canada doing this to legal, prospective immigrants.

I really wonder the same thing. I mean truthfully, my whole life I have been likely the most pro-American person in any room, and how darkly ironic now I am being treated like I am not wanted by that country, even though I am married 8 years to one of their citizens. I just don't get it.

Same here. Windsorites are Detroit fans. We don't go for the Raptors, we cheer on the Pistons. We don't go for the Argonauts, we go for the Lions. We don't root for the Blue Jays, we root for the Tigers. We're not Maple Leafs fans, we are Red Wings fans. We identify as a 'suburb of Detroit.' We use both the metric and imperial systems. We watch news from Detroit (I don't even have a CBC Windsor news station signal but rather Fox 2 News Detroit, 7 Action News Detroit, etc. Windsorites en mass work and shop in Detroit, as Detroiters visit our Casino here. And yet, I'm an "alien" waiting 17 months and counting. No reciprocity between us. I'm sure Windsorites identify as Detroiters, while Detroiters don't even know "what's a Windsor and where it is." Perhaps with the trucker protest, it is the first time they might have heard of us...maybe.

True. Postcards from Windsor are photos of Detroit's skyline (one of America's worst cities, lol). That's why I wanna get out of here and find employment elsewhere, whether that's in Canada or the U.S. Where are you at?

Toronto. I actually liked Detroit, albeit, mostly just the downtown part. The inner ring outside of the downtown is quite decrepit, very sad to see. But I admired how they were trying to turn it around and have a renaissance. It will never be what it was, but clearing the abandoned blight and finding new economic raisons de etre is important for them. Windsor must be a bit sparse for good work, unless you work in a factory, I would think?

I lived in Toronto for 4 years (I studied at U of T). Then I lived in Montreal for my Master's (studied at McGill). Never worked in my life, just a student, so I don't personally work in a factory or anywhere. However, yes, there is this saying where if you're from Windsor, either you personally, or at least you know of someone who works for one of the Big 3 Auto-manufacturers (Ford, GM, or Chrysler), and this is largely accurate. I'm pretty sure never being employed might be seen as a negative at the port of entry if/when they ask me what my income was in Canada.

i mean where else can you work there? Maybe university or hospitals. All the rest are like low-end service industry jobs, it would seem.

My wife doesn't really have much time to do inquiries with rep's offices lately, she is doing 12-13 hour days with her masters practicum and working part time now. I am going to have to arrange all of that myself, but honestly do not believe whatsoever that it makes a difference. There is no power that the House or Senate has over administrative aspects of the immigration process, it is an executive branch function. I think people on here are somehow thinking the consulate will be impressed bc it is a politician's office, but I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding of how things actually work in a bureaucratic setting. In theory, it sounds great.

THey may not have any power but if they can get the right person to look into it. It could help if somehow your file got stuck between the background check and completed stack. Where they are just missing the stamp of approval. Definitely help your wife out with the forms and get it sent off. Also sometimes if one office doesn't do anything the other office will ppl have have better luck that way.

Trying to find info on pickup. Does anyone have a list of IDs that are accepted to pick up the passport from the Canada post location? My sister will pick it up for my dad but they have been temporarily living at their current address and don’t have government ID reflecting that address.

thanks!

The email said

"To pick up your parcel

Show this email and your government issued photo ID with the same home address you used when you signed up for FlexDelivery.

Someone else who lives at your address can pick up your package for you if they show their ID with the same address."

I haven't had any updates on CEAC since Jan 11th. We've been trying to get in touch with our government representative for 3-4 weeks but they have blown us off every time. "We'll call you back tomorrow" then they never call. "We're assigning you a case worker" and they never get back to us. "You have a case worker" but then we called a few days later and they said "You were never assigned a case worker". Recently, "We'll call you by the end of the week" but the weekend passed without an update. My fiancé has called twice a week but it's been a waste of time so far. I don't know why our representative's office is so bad, but it's really truly been the worst.

My fiancé and I were planning to file a Mandamus lawsuit this month, but we wanted to exhaust all the free options first. We're just so tired of waiting.

@BatmanFlow Just because our cases happened on the same date, I've very curious of your status. Do I understand correctly that you had 2 parents put on AP and one of them was just issued?
