Are EAD timelines different according to case?

Timeline

EADs are taking a long time for everyone now.  I am not aware of any application whether from a K1 or other visa or AOS being put in front of anyone else.  The applications are also processed on a case-by-case basis, so each case is approved or not on their own merits.  An expedite can be requested for various reason such as a pending job offer, etc., so those can also skew the timelines.

Good Luck!

Hi everyone,

I can see that the average EAD time is around 228 days. I was wondering if that is because of some cases that have higher requirements or something like that. Is it really that high? Can it be lower for K1 visa holders?

Everyone fills out the I-765 the same, and all EADs are processed at NBC.  High volume plus the pandemic equal = longer processing for everyone.  Some cases are taking as long as 8 months now.  Sadly, that is one of the major drawbacks of a K1 and adjusting status.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yeah. That's such a bummer.
I heard that I can get it expedited if I have a job offer right? I have two questions:

  1. Do I have to wait at least 90 days to file for expedite?
  2. How much longer does it generally take after your expedite request is approved?

1. No

2. Since many try to expedite these days there's an uptick in processing times in that department too. Pre Covid it took me 2 weeks from putting in the request to get my card. Now we see cases where the decision if the expedite is even granted takes more than 2 months. And then the case sits there for many more days till somebody can adjucate it.

It took my wife over one year and two months to receive her EAD via the AOS pathway. It took her over one year just to get her biometrics.
