The various state DMVs/SOSs are not a federal institution.  Each state has their own requirements for ID, residency proof, etc. for getting or renewing a DL.

^^^This.  In Texas, they'll request a SAVE verification from USCIS.  It can take a couple of weeks, so I'd check out what you need ASAP and if it's the SAVE verification, get that ball rolling.

Since you only got the news today, unlike those who are saying pay $445 for a replacement, I will keep hounding Social Security for a few weeks before splashing out that money since you’re not planning on traveling soon.

Thank you all! Yes, I've been hounding SSA almost every day... And literally every day I get a different person telling me a different story of where my documents are. This is turning out to be a real nightmare..

Was told today that to wait 60 days before officially calling it missing. And that they're supposed to help me replace all my documents since they are the ones that lost it.

Just an idea: Have you thought of contacting your Congressman regarding how the SSA lost your documents? I would say that it is something to consider...

The more I read, the more I remember of a (somehow) similar situation that happened to me a couple years ago at the DMV. I had to renew my DL, and I wasn't a resident yet. I was just about to apply for my AOS. So I took my passport together with the other paperwork they require, and I never realized until I was about to file for AOS that I just simply did not have my passport!!!! So I went to the DMV twice. At first, the lady at the check in desk did not even let me finish my sentence and told me they didn't have any passport. But somehow I knew mine was there. So I went again the next day at a different time to see if I could speak to somebody that would let me go and talk to the guy at the window that had renew my DL. I basically told them I was not going to leave the premises without my passport lol. Long story short, they did have my passport. Somebody had put it in a drawer instead of taking it to the lost and found. Point is, go back again, at another time, and ask to speak to a supervisor. Tell them they are responsible for losing very important documentation.

Hi all,

With social security offices being closed, I was told to drop off my original documents in a "dropbox" and they'll process and mail it back to me. It has been 6 weeks since I've done that. I went down to the social security office today, and they LITERALLY COULDN'T FIND ALL MY DOCUMENTS, including my green card.

They said they will investigate and call me back. I'm freaking out here.

If it's really lost, what should I do now? I have filed for I751, which is currently pending, and I have received my extension letter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

You can easily use your passport and the letter, that's what I did when I used to have my 2 year green card, never had any problem including coming back to the US from overseas

Note that contrary to many messages in this thread, if OP's i751 is pending, he can't do an i90 to replace green card. Conditional Green Cards can not be replaced once the validity is 6 month or less. i751 pending means gcard is already 3 months validity or less.

The only way now is to get infopass appointment, and then to get an i551 stamp on passport.
