Stay away from simple carbs (sugar, white flour etc...). It should get better.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. I just found out today that I am borderline diabetic. All of my siblings are diabetic and so was my mother. I am beginning to wonder if this VJ process and the stress involved also contributed to my situation. Anyone else and any advice?

Hey I found some information for you in msnhealth

http://health.msn.com/centers/diabetes/

I think the first 2 articles in grains and fructose for preventing diabetes will help you a lot

take care!

I doubt it. Sounds like it runs in your family and you were likely to develop prediabetes/diabetes no matter what. Maybe the stress caused you to eat more which helped to tip you over the edge but again, if it wasn't this it probably would have been something else.

Diabetes runs in my family too and my levels are completely normal, though I'm nearly 32 and would not expect to be developing diabetes at my age. However, a colleague of mine in the UK developed prediabetes at 32 and full diabetes at 34. With a history similar to yours there was almost no way for her to avoid diabetes. A friend of mine here in Dallas lost all four grandparents and both parents to diabetic complications and is prediabetic herself now at the age of 35. She's 5'6" and weighs 115 lbs so weight is clearly not a factor in her case. There's nothing she can do; she will develop diabetes. It's almost a guarantee.

Once you do develop diabetes, which you are quite likely to do, you need to control your blood sugar to reduce the risk of complications. My mother has diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy and it's no fun. She's 62 but looks and moves like someone ten years older.

I think when it runs in your family, you are sunk :( My mom had it, wasnt diagnosed till she was in her late 50's. So i make sure i am tested yearly, so far, thank god my levels have been normal.

I agree that with this process being so stressful, it contributes to unheathly eating habits, i know it did for me.

Good advice. Give up and eat what you want. There's nothing one can do. oh dear.

Go ahead and just see what you want to see; I didn't say that but clearly winning points is more important to you than being right.

With her family history, diabetes is almost a guarantee. I'm being realistic.

Not about this, you're not.

You don't even mention a sensible diet. That's defeatist. Woot!

Gee, I didn't mention the sky was blue either. With her family history, I'm sure the OP knows all about what diabetics are not supposed to eat.

Stress can cause blood glucose levels to rise, but with a family history such as yours that would be the most likely reason for being borderline. I am a diabetic and I know firsthand what stress can and will do. I'm sure you know the ins and outs of diabetes but stress definitely not helping things. Advice...well... you'll have to figure out how NOT to stress and that will be up to you.
