Should I apply for K3 or Consular Processing?

Hello fellow Canadians! I am getting married to a US citizen soon. Obviously I want the shortest route that will enable us to be together. Does anyone know if it's faster to get a K3 or Immigrant Visa (via consular processing in Montreal) nowadays? Since he's not a resident in Canada, he'd have to file I-130 through Vermont centre (direct filing in Canada not possible). Also, has anyone tried traveling to the US (for <1week) while I-130 or K-3 is pending?

Need more information on where you are. If you are in the Western Provinces MB. AB. BC. SK then the K3 is the fastest route. If you live in the Eastern Provinces. The CR1 would be best for you since both the K1/K3 and CR1/IR1 seems to be taking about the same time.

Has anyone tried traveling to the US (for <1week) while I-130/IV or K-3 is pending? I know it's technically not allowed but the website states:

"After filing the petition, your relative normally would not be admissible to the U.S.; however the CBP inspector at the port-of-entry has the final say. To be eligible to enter your relative must assure the inspector that the visit is temporary and that she or he will depart the U.S. after the proposed visit and wait out the processing period for the immigrant visa in Canada or a third country. "

I know it's technically not allowed but the website states

Actually, technically you are allowed to visit. You must prove at the time on entry into the US that your intentions are a bon a fide visit and not to remain in the US without returning to Canada. You may be required to provided proof of your ties to Canada. Ie, a job you are returning to, a residence you are returning. There is a whole threat discussing the visiting the US during your application process. I'm sure someone will post you a link.

I'm assuming that you are a Canadian and are not a citizen of another country which may require a visitor visa to entry the US.

Once I've submitted I-130, for consular processing, besides I-864 and police certificate, are there any other forms I can start on before I receive packet 3 (to expedite things)? Is there a link somewhere that outlines the timeline? I've seen many people's timeline, but I don't understand a lot of the acronyms. For instance, what does "Touch" mean and what are all the "NOA's"? Sorry if my question is stupid, but I got really confused reading all the posts. Thanks again!

NOA - I-797 Notice of Action.

When I got my police cert from the RCMP office I needed the letter from my K3 document. Not sure if this is a requirment at all RCMP detachments. However if it is then you will need the letter from Packet 3 to proceed. You can get your I-864 completed but it would be wise to get it done at a later date since it would be the most recent. The entire process could take between 8-12 months and it would be better to take more updated material.
