Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any good recs for a Civil Surgeon in the Bay Area, preferably in San Francisco? I called one today and they charged around $800...seems crazy. Any recommendations are appreciated, especially one that accepts vaccinations from my own primary physician (I took a few vaccines last year to avoid taking them all in one day).

Thanks!

I'm sure you'll find that they all have comparable fees.  They can charge what they want for the service, insurance doesn't cover it, and if you're adjusting from a nonimmigrant visa, you have no choice but to pay it.

Uhm, not really no. There's doctors who charge as little as $250 and others that charge up to a $1000. So no, I don't have to pay that much. I'm asking for peoples recs who's gone to doctors for immigration purposes where they didn't pay that much, not asking for advice on if I should pay $800 or not:) Thanks though!

LOL, well if you know of a local civil surgeon in the Bay Area who charges as little as $250, why not go there?  Or get the list and call around?

In my opinion, it is unlikely that there would be huge differences in pricing within the same geographic area.  Like anything market driven, they will charge what the local market will pay.

Wow, I thought this was a forum where people exchanged experiences? I've already called around, but again, I would like other peoples experiences in the Bay Area. If you have any rec, feel free to share those. If not, then have a blessed day!

I did this a few years ago in the Bay Area. I called a few of the USCIS approved civil surgeon offices in the Dublin/Pleasanton area and got the list of vaccines that were needed, i asked them how much they would charge for just doing the physical exam and signing off the form if i already had all the needed vaccinations. I got lucky in that my health insurance through the employer covered all the required vaccinations that were needed under the preventive care. I don't remember the name of the clinics but i think there were a couple that charged around ~$100 provided you do not need any vaccinations. then i was able to have the civil surgeon sign it off

Further you go out from the Bay Area - the cheaper price you might be able to find.

I have no experience of going through the Civil Surgeon here in SF but I had to do it twice: once in NYC and once in Denver (because USCIS "lost" my medical exam form originally). NYC charged me $250 for a blank form (I have all of my vaccines already administered). Denver charged me $400 for another blank form. This was 5 and 4 years ago respectively.

Good luck with your search!

Does anyone have any good recs for a Civil Surgeon in the Bay Area

2 days ago I went to one in Newark, CA. They charge $199 (or $10 less if you pay with cash) if you have all the vaccine records and do the blood tests with someone else (e.g. your doctor, etc.). Otherwise, they would charge additionally for any blood tests they do. https://www.afcurgentcare.com/newark/

I went to that one since they are also open on Sundays and they accept walk-ins. Since I didn't want to take time off work to go to my doctor for the TB, Syphilis, and Gonorrhea blood tests and the Varicella titer test I did it at the Civil Surgeon for an additional $357.

Try looking for a civil surgeon affiliated with a non-profit. That's what I did for my I-693. Cost $180 for the nonprofit's admin fee and $165 for the laboratory tests. Civil surgeon did not charge anything. I got all the vaccines covered through my health insurance. I'm in a much cheaper state, but the same strategies should work to lower the cost in the Bay Area.
