would like your opinion about timeline/AOS/AP

Hi,

I know that all cases are different and that nothing really can be predicted but would you mind sharing your opinion with me on the topic of my AOS processing time?

I filed for AOS on 3/17, received the notice for it on 3/24 (dated 3/22), then created an online account at USCIS, saw that the application was updated both on 3/28 and 3/29, and today received the letter for my biometrics appointment in the mail (appointment is next Tuesday, April 4th). So the entire process from sending off the AOS package until the biometric appointment didn't even take a full three weeks.

As I said, of course you can't say anything definite, but is it normal that the first steps happen so fast? Or could this be an indicator that our case might progress quickly all the way through...?

I am mainly asking because I was thinking about applying for AP (I am NOT planning to leave on a trip, it would be just in case some emergency happened with the family in Germany). But since that application usually takes 8 weeks or so as well, and since I am not PLANNING on using it anyway, it would probably help me make up my mind if you all told me that the speed of my processing up to date might be an indicator for the rest of the process...... :help:

(Of course, I know anything can happen and it might just take years, but I'm just talking about your opinion in general, since many of you have so much more experience with these topics :) )

16 Nov 29 Nov Notice date

3 Dec Received NOA 1

3 Jan 05 Please I just want to be touched

3 may 05 NOA2 E mail notification

7 May 05 Mail NOA2

11 May 05 sent petition to Bogota

18 May Packet 3 arrived

19 May Checklist taken to consulate

31 May Packet 4 delivered

29 June visa granted

1 July Visa delivered

Sometime in July Lucero came to US

13 Sept 05 Married

1 Nov 05 -USCIS recieved 485 and EAD

13 December RFE stupid things I should have included Returned very quickly

27 March received bio letter for New Orleans

7 Apr_06 Bio done in New Orleans

20 April 06 Touched on all applications

21 April Email received EAD approved

27 Apr Received EAD card

30 May 2006 Received appointment letter for JaX on 13 July 2006

13 July Interview successful approved

20 July Received green card

30 June 08 Sent I751 to remove conditions

25 July 08 Application returned erroneously incorrect fee

27 July mailed new application with separate checks

15 Sept 08 Application returned erroneously K2 not within 90 day timeframe

17 Sept Mailed 3rd application with mountains of proof of error copied Senator Mel Martinez

09 October 4th application package sent. This time they said the app signature page was a copy

10 Oct Sent package again 4th time.

25 Oct Received another NOA for Wife with $625 for the amount with one year extension

30 Oct 2008 Still nothing for step daughter. Checks still haven't cleared the bank

24 November Checks finally cleared the bank

February biometrics for wife Nothing for daughter.

I got my biometrics appt within 3 weeks too.......I'm still waiting for my AP though, and our receipts are dated November 22nd. I think it is totally random.

November 22nd 2005: Received receipts for I485, I130 and I131

December 6th 2005: Received RFE for medical

December 15th 2005: Biometrics appointment

February 23rd 2006: I131 touched

February 25th 2006: I485 touched - medical has been received at Chicago Lockbox

March 31st 2006: I131 touched

April 3rd 2006: I131 touched

April 3rd 2006: I131 received!!!!

May 5th 2006: Interview notice received

June 21st 2006: Interview - APPROVED!!

May 2008: Applied to remove conditions at Nebraska service center

May 2008: forwarded to CSC

June 19th 2008: Biometrics

August 21st 2008 card production ordered - YAY California!!

12-01-05 - Picked up visa!!

AOS:

12-25-05 - Flight lands at JFK - EAD stamp

05-15-06 - Green card received!! Woo-hoo!!!

05-09-07 - Our first son born!

Removal of Conditions

01-29-08 - Mailed Removal of Conditions Application (overnight)

02-07-08 - Check Cashed

02-08-08 - NOA1

03-12-08 - Biometrics

12-12-08 - Card production ordered! Yay!

12-30-08 - 10 year card received! Yay!

Naturalization

01-12-10 - Mailed application

01-20-10 - NOA

02-16-10 - Biometrics

04-21-10 - Interview

04-21-10 - Oath ceremony - US CITIZEN!!!

I guess I 'll just have to keep on guessing and think about applying for that AP as well :(

But at least now I know that I shouldn't get my hopes up just because the first steps happened so fast.

Sorry CWR,

I don't think anybody here meant to dash your hopes. It is indeed a very good sign that you have jumped the first hurdle quickly.

You may very well be one of the lucky ones that slides quickly through the system. I'm sure that you have been here long enough, or at least read enough to know that good friends would not get your hopes up too much.

There are many lucky people that pass quickly. There are others that are not quite so fortunate. There is no way to predict which club you belong to.

Good luck. Be optimistic!!!

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I am not disappointed by your answers per se but they showed me (esp. Claire and Kanyiri whose first steps happened as quickly as mine), that a quick biometrics appointment does not necessarily mean that the AOS process as a whole will speed up.....and those answers were exactly what I was looking for because that means that I probably should at least consider applying for that AP (I would hate to be stuck here if there was a family emergency in Germany.....).

And I guess I'd rather be more realistic - or even a bit pessimistic - and then pleasantly surprised, than be optimistic and disappointed (deep down I think I'm still optimistic.....just trying to stay realistic, though) :D

So thanks again, I guess we'll just wait and see :)

I had my biometrics appointmet one months after mailing everyting to Chicago...the EAD got approved after 70 days...my interview was just a couple days ago...

I think it also depends on your local office...good luck though and keep us posted!!

And I do agree, a lot depends on the local office. Unfortunately (for me), I have almost no timelines for comparison: There is only ONE other couple here who already filed for AOS in Anchorage (I guess Alaska is not exactly the preferred state for immigrants....? :D )....and they apparently have had bad luck, for they haven't heard ANYTHING for several months now. I am hoping that my case will NOT go accordingly.....

So despite my experience (still no word!!) I would go ahead and apply - just in case. I know - 170 dollars is a lot of money......but stilll...........

Yes, I was thinking the same.....I know they do have emergency APs, but what if there was an emergency after the local office closed down on a Friday afternoon......I surely would not want to wait around until they re-opened on Monday :(
