Interview and Medical Exam Requirements

As my interview is finally scheduled and nearing, I was hoping those that have been through the immigration process could shed some light not the requirements.

My wife and I have been living in Canada together for the last 3.5 years or more and we are awaiting my green card to move to the US to be close to our family there.

I had some questions about what is needed for the interview as well as the medical exam as I do have some challenges related to the vaccination records.

First off, can someone confirm what documents are required to be brought to the interview, especially which have to be the originals?

There's some confusion from my perspective as to whether or not my wife's original birth certificate (US) is needed, or if another document (such as passport) would work. Appreciate any guidance on all documentation needed from those that completed the process successfully.

Second, does anyone know how stringent the vaccine record requirements are? I do not have mine as I immigrated to Canada many years ago and my parents could not locate the records from Greece, where I would have received my vaccines. Secondly, I had a very adverse reaction to my initial vaccines as a child, and was diagnosed with a condition, so my physician has always advised me to be cautious about taking any vaccines, including the annual flu shot. As my family doc couldn't locate any local vaccine records either, he had me go to a lab and get some blood work done to confirm immunity to Measles, Mumps and Chicken pox, and those came back good (I have the report from the health organization). Wondering if those would suffice for the exam?  I'm also not sure if I'd need a TB booster, or even if it's safe for me to do at this point because of my history/condition.

Sorry for the ramble, again, appreciate if anyone can shed some light on the medical exam/vaccine requirements and if anyone knows if my specific situation may be a challenge.

Thank you.

Q. Do I have to receive all the vaccines that are on CDC's list and that are age appropriate, although I may have a medical condition that prevents me from receiving the required vaccines?
A.  If you have a medical condition that prevents you from receiving a vaccine that is appropriate for your age, the civil surgeon will annotate the Form I-693 accordingly and mark the vaccine as contraindicated. A contraindication is a condition that prevents you from receiving a particular vaccine.

What happens if you don't have immunization records for green card?

If you have the required vaccinations, but do not have your vaccination records, the doctor may perform a blood test to prove that you are immune to the disease and do not require the vaccinations. After the exam, the doctor will complete Form I-693 and give it to you in a sealed envelope for you to submit to USCIS.Feb 25, 2019

Oh that's great info, so I take it I would need a letter from my family doc to advise of my condition and the reason for looking for the exemption of the TB and flu vaccines? I will bring my blood test results for immunity as well, but if I need to do another blood test at the medical exam for immunity, so be it.

Thanks for the information.

Bumping this up. Wondering if anyone can shed some light on the documents required for the interview? I’m most concerned if the original birth certificate for my wife (US born) is needed as that is back in the US with her mother at this time and it will take some time to get it sent to us if needed.

Thanks.

Hi,

All the information you are looking for is on the website: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#pre_interview_checklist

Yes you need the birth cert.

Thanks

Ya, I was just hoping others that went through the process could confirm whether or not the original birth certificate is a requirement or if a copy is acceptable?

Check the FAQ thread for CR1/IR1 applicants in Canada.  If not there, try the mega-thread for those awaiting or have completed interview at Montreal --

Unfortunately you do need the original birth certificate of the petitioner.  There was a recent account of a MTL interview where everything was in order except that a photocopy of the petitioner birth certificate was brought instead of the original. The visa was marked as "refused" and applicants were instructed to mail in the original certificate after the interview.

Thanks for the info. We actually called my mother in law last week and asked her to send it to us. I’m sure it’ll show up on time, but still paranoid it may be late or get lost, etc. Guess it’s my mistake for not checking this requirement earlier as we could have brought back the original during our most recent trip back to see our family during the late summer. Love and learn!
