NVC processing times question (split)

Hi everybody.  I hope you can help me with a little confusion that has just popped up.  On the home page for VJ there is a list of current processing times,  including the NVC.  It shows something like 9 months, but this thread is saying that it's about 80 days.  That's quite a discrepancy and I really like the 80 days vs 9 months.  Am I missing something?  Thanks.

Welcome Dave, from your previous posts it sounds like you're just at the start of the visa process and about to submit your I-130. Which as you probably know from your previous applications is the very start of the process. After your petition is approved you'll move onto the next stage of submitting documents to the NVC. The 82~ day review time we are speaking of is the time taken from submission of documents to the NVC to them reviewing them, these timeframes used to be much shorter but due to covid have significantly increased.

I am not sure which processing times you're looking at on the VJ home page, so can't comment directly, but I would caution that VJ processing times are all based off various data from users and aggregated, and there isn't very good data of the NVC submission stage.

Thanks for the reply.  I know it's early in the process, but there are many things to plan out, and when the member reported processing time is around 10 months and people are posting that they are being "DQ'd" in 76 to 80 days, what accounts for the 200+ day difference?  Does it take that long before the NVC picks up your file?  Does the average applicant take 200 days to upload the application and evidence, and pay the fees.  Can somebody fill in that blank for me?

DQ happens at the NVC phase which is like being in phase 2. Phase 1 would be USCIS where the spousal/fiancé/family visa process starts. That’s usually the phase that can take awhile depending on the service center.

I understand that there are multiple phases or stages with multiple players.  I am inquiring only about the NVC.  I know that the case is filed at a USCIS service center.  In my case, that was TSC.  I know that they are taking about 9  months. I know that the service center will issue a NOA 2 and send the case to the NVC.   What I am asking about, is that the graph available from  the VJ home page that shows average "processing time" at the NVC is currently showing 333 days.  That's 11 months.  Members on this board, in this thread, are posting about being DQ"d in 76 to 82 days.  I know what DQ means.  333 days minus 82 days is 251 days.  What is happening in that 251 days?

Well maybe your initial question should have been this detailed.

Maybe the graph represents the entire process from USCIS phase to NVC DQ?

Could you please link the page where the graph is so we can see it and reply to you more accurately?

Okay.  This is the link

Scroll down to Step 3 - IR1/CR1 I-130 NVC Processing Time history.  This is the 333 days I'm asking about. I'll ask my question another way.  How long from NOA2 to DQ? NOA2 signals to end of the USCIS phase and indicates that the service center is sending your package to the NVC.  How many days/weeks/fortnights/months/years until DQ?

I just saw it...

The NVC gives you a year to submit all your documents on CEAC. Also keep in mind that sometimes people get RFEs and need to resubmit papers.

But usually from NOA2 to DQ depends on how fast you submit your papers to CEAC.

I'll give you an example

We got our NOA2 on May 6th

Our case was created at NVC on May 10th

We uploaded our documents on August 22nd

Now our submission date at NVC is August (not May when the case was created). So the 80~ days you see is from the day you submitted to when you get DQ.

So if you want the gap from the day your case is created to the day you submit your papers to be short, I suggest getting all your documents ready now. Check the country specific civil document requirements, make a checklist of everything you need pertaining to your case, and have them ready to upload as soon as possible.

Also keep in mind that you have to pay the fees first on CEAC and that usually takes about 3-7 days to process.

I hope this answered your question.

PS

The NVC updates their timeframes every week (Mondays mostly) showing which submission dates they reached. Someone posted a link in a previous reply on this thread or just type "NVC Timeframes" on google and it'll most likely be the first result

We're getting a little side tracked here, this question is worthy of being a separate thread, but I'll try and address your concern to nip this in the bud.

The reporting options on VJ for this area not very clear when your submit your timeline which is what the graph / timing you refer to is based on. I believe the 333 day average is representative of the time taken from NVC getting the case to interview, after you DQ your case remains at NVC until the local embassy can schedule the interview. So time from submission to DQ may be currently 82 days (if you don't get a RFE) but time at NVC maybe be way longer.

As for NOA2 to DQ, well that depends on how long you take to submit your documents. After NOA2 it takes currently 10 days or so for case creation, then it's up to you to submit which may vary depending on how long it takes to gather all documentation. After submission it takes currently 82 days to review which is no guarantee of DQ, you may have to resubmit (very common).

After DQ you enter the queue for interview at your local embassy which maybe be 3months to a year.

If you want to discuss this further I would suggest you open a new post with your questions, so more people from VJ can see it and help answer.

Thank you AwraE.  That"s exactly what I am looking for.  Some people, maybe many people, take a very long time to submit all the required forms and the correct evidence, causing what could be a 5 or 6 month process to be a 10 or 11 month process.  I imagine some folks actually struggle with the fee payment. So it looks like if one's ducks are all in a row, one's forms are correct, and one's evidence is complete and compelling, the NVC could be conquered in 6 months or less. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

No problem. I'm glad I was able to help you. Yes, if you have all your papers ready by the time you get your NOA2 then you'll shorten the time significantly.

As @Saqib-s said, it's better to start a thread to help you and others discuss this further

That's not the only reason for the long wait time at NVC.  More common reason is the long wait for an interview schedule.  The "Step 3" chart that you referred to includes the time that a case spent at NVC from case creation up to the time it is "shipped" to the consulate.  DQ cases stay at NVC until the embassy/consulate has interview slots available.  That means NVC time = document collection time until submit + NVC review time until DQ + interview schedule wait time after DQ.  So for consulates with huge backlogs like Montreal and Ciudad Juarez, it is common for the NVC time of cases to be 10 months or more.  Worse for the cases intended for consulates that are not processing visas at all, like Moscow.

Thanks to Chancy for providing even more good news. That 333 day average also includes some very long interview backlogs.  It looks like the Embassy in Manila is getting to IR1/CR1 interviews in about 45 days. If I can keep this train on the tracks and avoid an RFE at the NVC, maybe it can be done in 15 to 16 months all-in. Thanks to all for solving the mystery.
