Where did you do your medical? I got mine from Dr. Lyndon in Toronto and they did not ask for proof of vaccinations except for COVID.

You need proof of vaccinations other than covid like TDAP, MMR, Hepatitus and chicken pox

Or you have to show proof of immunity with a test. Chicken pox only verbal is required that you had it when you're a kid. Other proof is required and also you need to fill form on their website and get it signed by doctor. This is for permanent residence

You cannot be living with your wife in the US pre visa, do you have a different visa to allow you to live in the US? . You are visiting, do not confuse the two, not likely to happen at this point but using the wrong words can cause all sorts of trouble.

They stopped same day or even pick up long ago. That exception is not for visitors, you do not live in the US, unless you have some sort of visa you did not tell us about. Such as a work visa.

Sorry i meant visiting. So they stopped pick up ? What's the best case scenario of approving visa ?

agree with this. thank you for clarification. If my case goes to AP, is it possible I can ask my passport back and submit when visa is apporved, so I can visit my wife in US

Yes you can ask for it back to visit if you get AP. They stopped pick up a long time ago. I don't think I've personally seen anyone get that option in years.

yes true but i'm going for best case scenario to pick up next day. Possibility is low but lets see what happens.. SEE EXCEPTION part

As I'm sure you've noticed, many of these documents never get updated.  If anything, Montreal is taking LONGER to issue the visa and send the passports back out than they historically used to.  You're also likely to be told by your interviewing CO that it likely will take 2 weeks, should there be no hiccups.

Dr. Cheema in Surrey, BC. This link explains what vaccines are required for US immigration per age group. It should be the same for any medical exam office you go to in Canada, because this is a US requirement.

Is it worth it to pay premium pickup/delivery for passport visa and packet ? Can anyone shed some light on it ?

Once issued, our visa arrived in 2 business days to the Vancouver Canada Post Office. We didn't see the need for premium delivery.

After the Visa is issued and you arrive in the US, how long does it take to get your SS number / Tax ID? I read the visa stamp and temp green card (until the official card arrives) is proof of being eligible to work, but won't employers need the SS number as well? Curious how long that takes to arrive.

It's in the FAQ's

As for whether you can work without the SSN, the answer is yes, you can.  See the instructions for I-9.  Many HR personnel are unfamiliar with these instructions and *think* you need a social, but you don't.  Not immediately.  The Social is so they can pay the government on your behalf.  They can withhold those amounts and pay it as soon as you are able to provide them your social.

@DGF are you still looking after the FAQ's?

Just an update for those of you with NEXUS cards.

  • Canadian NEXUS offices remain closed with covid excuses on the doors.
  • US NEXUS offices are open.
  • The GOES portal is basically locked down for updates

I went to the NEXUS office in WA last week.  The very lovely lady there told me that the GOES system has been locked down since COVID, so if you've submitted them online, nothing has been done with them and no verification of documentation has been done.  She was able to verify and update our greencards AND the new passports Kid2 received during covid.

I had sent an inquiry to CBP about these updates and, of course, they took over a month to update me.  But, they reiterated what the lovely lady at the WA NEXUS Center told me:

  • NAME CHANGE: Please reply to this message with a color image of your passport reflecting the name change. (cbpinfocenter@cbp.dhs.gov)
  • CITIZENSHIP OR IMMIGRATION STATUS CHANGE: Please reply to this message with images of your new passport or Permanent Resident Card (I-551). For U.S. Permanent Resident cards, please provide images of the front and back of the card.
  • DOB or GENDER UPDATES/CORRECTIONS: Please reply to this message with a color image of your passport reflecting the correct date of birth and/or gender.
  • ADD or UPDATE VISA: Please reply to this message with a color image of the new visa.

Once we receive your attachment, we will escalate this case to request the name update. Escalation processing times are currently 3-4 weeks.

The lady at the NEXUS Enrollment Center said to keep the scans to the EXACT size of the document (don't resize) and as close to original as possible so they can verify.

So, that might be helpful for those of you who depend on Global Entry expedites to get into the US (NEXUS lineups seem to be more easily mastered).  I know I have ZERO desire to get stuck in a long lineup coming into the US when I have paid for an expedited traveler option!

That's great clarification. Thank you!! No need to delay finding work then. ;)
