Are you on US utilities--ie, your name as well as the USC? Have you been added as an authorized user to any of the USC's credit lines? Do you already have other joint banking accounts with the USC? These things can also contribute to giving you a US credit history...

No, the utilities are only under my husband’s name, and I haven’t added myself as supplementary to my husband’s credit cards. We were weren’t sure if adding me would affect his credit score. We didn’t want to jeopardise that in case we find a house we fell in love with, we wanted to be able to purchase it atleast based on my husband’s good credit history. Do you know if adding me would affect his credit?

My husband and I started a joint bank account at TD a couple of days after I crossed the border.

No, you won't negatively impact his score.  He'll positively impact yours.  I just added Kid1 as an authorized user on my one account to begin building kiddo's credit so there's no issues walking into university/college with no history.  My credit score is unchanged.  Have him add you and in 6mo time, if he gets any "refer a friend offers", he can refer you and you both get the bonus deal.

Don't beat yourself up over it.  At least he has credit!  When I moved initially, my ex and I came together and neither of us had credit in the US, so that was fun times...NOT!

Applicants using Form DS-260

If you are applying for an immigrant visa, using Form DS-260, you must provide two (2) identical photos at your immigrant visa interview. Your photos must be:

  • Printed on photo quality paper
  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size

------------------------------------------------

Does the above the photos have to be identical to the one submitted online to NVC with DS-260 ---- OR ---- that the two photos (which HAVE be RECENT/NEW) have to be identical to each other? Thank you!

As mentioned, photos have to be to recent (taken within last 6 months). Many have waited over a year from submitting to NVC to get interview letter, so obviously the photos submitted would not work. I had to take new photos which were not identical to the ones submitted to NVC. The two photos have to be identical to each other.

Side note - it is funny they ask for two, but then return both during the interview. No idea what they do with two if they only need to scan them.

I agree with @mam521. When I was new here in US, I can't get approve of credit card with Best Buy or any bank. Was been advised that my dad will apply at Costco and add me at that time AMEX as extended user, and we also applied credit card at Best Buy as he is the Primary Account holder and I'm a joint/extended. My dad didn't have a negative impact with his Credit History.

Another thing I did that time is my dad as the primary, applied another individual line with Verizon with my name for the billing and account.

Have you tried checking also with Bank of America? I just can't believe that TD declined you. With RBC, they were able to check my credit history with Experian & TransUnion and I got approved for RBC Canada credit Card. We were also apply Cross border Acct (opened a US$ account at RBC US) and my wife was also got approved for RBC US credit card.

Hi! I have a question and sorry if this forum isnt the correct spot to ask but

NVC has accepted all our docs and we've paid our fees, however, we have received the following message from them:

"This case does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. For more information visit https://nvc.state.gov/aos. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview. For more information, please visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p."

I also received a separate message that said: "Please submit Ximena's Evidence of Income. For more information, visit https://nvc.state.gov/fin."

Am I supposed to resubmit an I-864 or am I just supposed to have it ready for the interview? I didn't have my taxes filed yet when I applied (2020 taxes) so when I submitted, I had only submitted my 3 previous tax years and a copy of my tax extension for 2020. My income qualifies so I am not worried about that, but I haven't recevied a message about being DQed (and I received the previous message over a month ago) so I'm wondering they wont DQ me until I resubmit my I-864.

Also, for my 2020 taxes, my tax preparer filed me as Single, even though I am married, but my husband lives and works in Canada. I'm working on having them amend that but it won't be soon cause it'll have to wait until after April 15. I'm unsure of how to proceed.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Yes, you won’t be DQ’d until you submit an i864 with the necessary minimum income requirements.

I was unable to understand details from your post, but there is some reason that NVC is saying your income doesn’t qualify and suggesting a joint sponsor. Is it that your current income qualifies, but not the former, which isn’t reflected because you haven’t filed with 2021 taxes?

Find out the reason why NVC says your income doesn’t meet the minimum, and correct it and resubmit AOS documents. If it is unable to meet the minimum file with a joint sponsor, and resubmit AOS documents.

You will not be DQ’d until your AOS meets the requirements.

Thanks for the advice… It’s clear to me now that TD sucks ☹️.

My previous income that I submitted (from tax years 2019, 2018, and 2017) should have been more than enough, but they don't have evidence of my current income because when I initially submitted the application (June 2021), I had not filed my taxes for 2020 yet. So I only submitted proof of a tax filing extension to explain why I did not have my 2020 taxes to provide.

2021 taxes missing should not be an issue in itself.

Edit - How did you not file 2020 taxes yet? That was due April 2021… maybe that is the issue. Resubmit now with 2020 taxes and maybe it will be fixed?

Regardless I recommend you call NVC and find out what the issue is, as all of us here can only speculate.

Long story short, I didn't file my 2020 taxes because I married a Canadian, I lost my job, and my house burned down in a wildfire (quite the year!). This made my taxes very complex and I filed with H&R block (who took forever). I did not have renter's insurance so I was able to claim everything I lost in the fire for my taxes under casualty loss, which meant I got a refund. When you get a refund, apparently there's no such thing as being "late" on your taxes, only when you owe the government.

Once I submit my updated I-864, how long would it be before I get an interview scheduled? Is it another 10 months? 🥺

Think of resubmission as the new priority date for when your case will be reviewed. This may be 3-4 months and then wait for your interview letter.

Just checked this but would like to confirm - currently, Quebec has no entry restrictions/curfews etc. The only requirement seems to be to have the covid vaccination proof with you in order to onboard your flight/train/bus to Montreal?

Would be great if someone can confirm. Thank you so much!

NVC can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months to DQ you (should all documents be in order).

The wait from DQ is currently no longer a year. It has reduced to as little as 5 weeks, maximum 2 months.

Clarification on something in the FAQ (BTW cant thank you guys enough for maintaining the FAQ doc).

Can I bring a bag?

Small bags are ok, but large bags are not allowed and cannot be stored at the consulate.

Are cloth style grocery carrying bags ok to carry documents in? or only plastic bags are preferable.
