Do we have to pay the fees of GC after i receive the passport ??

Yes. You don't have to do it before activating your visa (though it is strongly recommended) but you'll need to do it in order to start the green card production process.

Hi guys,

Is there any way to extend 6month period to go to the US after getting the green card approval?

Because of other matters to sort out in Canada, I won't be able to go to the US within 6 months.

Thank you for all your help.

You can enter the US to activate your visa and then immediately return to Canada to sort things out. You can be out of the US for 6 months before your status is jeopardized, but note that you won't have Canadian health insurance after you activate the visa, so you'll need to have alternate insurance. For example, if you need 8 months to wrap things up in Canada, you could activate your visa at say 5.5 months post-medical and then "visit" Canada for the remaining 2.5 months.

If you can't activate the visa in 6 months, you will need a new medical and a new interview. Plus, they don't guarantee that a visa will be approved just because it was already approved previously. I'd avoid this if at all possible.

Yep, that's correct. You can pay before or after POE but it's better to pay before.

Hey all. I got approved at my interview yesterday. Officer said all was good and he was going to approve my visa. It went from "Ready" earlier this morning to "Issued" and undergoing AP.

Is this reason to concern? I am Canadian Citizen, only ever travelled to US (6x In past 1.5 yrs with no issues at border crossing).

Thanks in advance.

Had my CR1 turned IR1 visa interview this morning. Seemed to go well but they needed more proof of Domicile. It seemed that she was a new trainee and kept asking for clarification from her superior. She gave me a 221g for more proof of domicile. We sent a bunch of paperwork in a few hours later through the portal to overcome the domicile requirements (even though we thought they had all they needed from the NVC stage). I'm curious if anyone else had any 221g refusal experiences more recently (most of what I found was last year and early this year). She kept my passport and mentioned if I send them in quick I'd likely get the visa and passport in 2-4 weeks. Does that seem like a average wait time?

Everything else looked to be approved and satisfactory for her, it was just domicile as my wife is currently living in Canada (dual citizen). Thanks for any feedback.

What did they ask you about domicile? What proof did you have with you to show and what did you send?

Would you mind updating me when you get further updates and tracking number? I’m feeling super worried since I saw your post because my interview was October 15th they said they intended to approve my visa and my status still shows “ready”

Of course. i will update you. That is strange and nerve wracking for it to still say "Ready". I wonder if you could email the consulate directly and just ensure what the hold up is?

Thank you! I really appreciate that. I just emailed them! I’m hoping for some kind of update today because I’m worried I was forgotten or something is wrong.
