Hi! This week or the next we will be hearing back about my husband’s interview date.  (Timing is based by the nvc bulletin that updates weekly with the dates they are working on.)

My question is, does anyone know how much time there is to wait from the time they give you your interview date up until the actual interview?  Like how far out do they schedule the interview? Couple weeks? Couple months?

Also, after the interview, (assuming all goes well) how long does it usually take to receive the actual visa? Have read several different articles and they all seem to say different. Trying to plan ahead a little if possible because my husband has a lot of things to sell and we will have to look for plane tickets etc. thanks in advance!

Some people receive their visas quickly whilst others go on AP and others need to gather more evidence because some paperwork is missing.

Usually the interview is scheduled a month or two out. This gives the beneficiary time to complete their medical.

I'm not sure what the DR Embassy tells their applicants, but most embassies state the visa will be returned in about 10 days.

I personally wouldn't buy tickets or sell too many personal items until visa is in hand.

That would be perfect hopefully the timing goes similar to that! Yes we definitely won’t buy tickets or sell much before we get his visa! Thank you for responding 🙂

COVID plays a big role now. I've been waiting for the interview for three months. Because there are several COVID lockdowns in place. Seems that all timelines are out the window now.

Yes we’ve waited an extremely long time for them to accept our I 130 petition. If i hadn’t sent in a k3 application months later I’m sure we would still be waiting right now. The nvc bulletin is updated weekly and it seems like they are moving along at a pretty steady pace now. Finally catching up a little bit. There aren’t any lockdowns with DR or the US right now I go back and forth quite a bit so

hopefully their timelines will be semi on schedule fingers crossed!

Good luck! I hope the rest of your visa process goes smoothly and you're reunited soon.

Have you been DQ'ed yet? Or are you waiting to be Documentarily Qualified?

I'm not sure what the wait time is between DQ and interview scheduled for the DR. It could be a wait of several more months up to a year.

Thank you!! We sent in all of our official documents on august 4th, all should work out with that I’m thinking. I make enough money to support us on the affidavit of support part and we turned in everything else paper wise that was asked accurately.

I was under the impression that they tell you the documents are accepted and give you the interview date at the same time? Or if you get an email with the interview date I would assume that all of the documents were accepted and fine? I thought it would only be prolonged if they needed more evidence from your official documents. I hope that it won’t be more months or up to a year waiting that would really suck!

Unfortunately not. These days due to Covid after they accept your documents accepted, NVC needs to wait for the embassy to request your file.

Some countries like Pakistan wait approximately a year before the interview is scheduled.

Here are some posts from people in the DR.

Thank you for the info! I’m reading on the post you sent about expediting? I thought you could only do that if you had like a serious life threatening or extreme situation? Ugh all of this is so frustrating and confusing

I didn't read through the posts, just linked the thread.

Not sure about expedite. The poster in question might have had a legit reason to expedite.

Looks like people have been waiting a long time from when they were DQ’d and the actual interview 😩

this is spouse visa so u do not have to worry about selling before he arrives

With the I 551 stamp on his visa at POE,  he is free to return to settle things

I 551 is good for a year while waiting for the actual green card

he just should not stay outside the US for long periods of time

plus he has 6 months from time of the medical exam  to travel to the US

my Adil had to sell his car / we kept the apartment to have a home away from home

so,  he traveled a few months after the visa was in hand

I think we just want to sell most of his stuff and start over. We need the money for plane tickets and the move itself. His apartment isn’t something we would like to keep and I don’t think we will be returning there for a while. But that is good information to know thank you!!

Best of all things to the 2 of u

My Adil also spent time buying his luggage and lots of clothes as they are cheap in his country and expensive here
