The deranged woman continued her assault by hitting Yi on the head with the baton, which split split open her face, she said.

'Blood was everywhere,' a shaken Yo said. 

Yi says that one of her students immediately dialed 911 but only received a message saying operators were busy. They eventually got her help by flagging down a police car.

This happened about half a mile from where I live. What's really, really disingenuous about the reporting is that every picture (as far as I can tell) is NOT of Santa Monica, and most of that article is about what's happening not in this city but in LA, specifically Venice and Skid Row. Different police department, different fire department. Yes, we have a problem with homelessness in SM but it is nothing like what it's like in Venice, which truly is terrible although the recent clearout of Venice Beach has helped things there. We don't have "no go" zones or gigantic encampments because we have different policing and different priorities. If the DM wanted to do an article about homelessness where this incident actually happened it should, you know, actually report on what is going on here and not somewhere nearby. Just lazy.

I was in SM earlier this year and yes it was a bit weird but not as bad as say downtown Denver.

Drove through Pueblo recently while coming back from Great Sand Dunes, the area around I25 looked a little sketchy.  We by-passed Denver though as we were heading to Western Nebraska, so we took Us24 to Limon then SR71 up to I76.  Not a whole lot to see on SR71.

Seems like we could take some old shut down bases and provide for the homeless and get many of them the mental health treatment they need.

I read the article and it seemed to be about a woman being attacked in Santa Monica.  It may have taken over a decade, but the area is nowhere near as nice as it used to be.  CA is just going to keep CA'd.

Yes, very much so. The people on Skid Row tend to be older, sicker and way more out of it. The people in Venice are younger, oftentimes people who have chosen to drop out of society, and are more likely to cause violent incidents and commit crime.
