So, legally it's a NO. Many people taxes has been held by IRS because of that. Some of them has been  coming to our tax office with friends claiming them as dependents. we where audited by IRS for that and almost loosing our license. So If the person Is not related to you and has her own social, he or she has to file for their own.

There is bracket in your tax return form to fill if a person has been helping you financially for more than 6 months during the tax year. And that will boost your taxes for more returns. You can even mention the name and the amount that person has been helping you with during that tax year. 

Finally, how can you claim somebody as dependent without he or she having any social number in that tax year?

How did you do inquiry to Vermont did you send them a letter ? Or filed some form?

Is it about i485? When did you initially file it and what state are you in?

That's exactly the same update I had on January 06 2022 concerning a service request I submitted ending December 2021 to Vermont. 

They stated in their response that we can not give any answer due to.....please write to Vermont. 

They will never answer any electronic or phone's queries.

"Any queries pattern to Vermont should be in writing"

Please how do you address the envelop to USCIS Vermont when making an inquiry via written mail? Should it states Case inquiry on the envelop?

Consider sending inquiry to Vermont through your senator. Less likely to get "lost" or ignored by USCIS.

Not on the envelop, but instead inside. 

You will include along with your query a copy of your receipt notice. 

Don't forget to add a copy of your ID. 

Be aware that Vermont doesn't always answer queries. That's why most people's always contact Vermont service center only through the medium of their congressperson. 

They don't ignore congressional queries.
