Hello everyone!
My Senator sent an expedite request on my behalf to the U.S. Embassy, typically how long until they reply back to me with an approval or response? Does it usually work when senators send them instead?

Is your case still at NVC?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes, it is still at the NVC. Senator said that because my case has been DQ for more then a year that it should be approved with a congressional request but I’d like to know if anyone else has ever had success with this

Waiting for more than a year for an interview is not a valid reason for an expedite.  Consulates and embassies around the world are working through a COVID backlog, it will take time to clear out all of the piled up cases, so NVC has not sent the file to the DOS yet and will not do so until an interview is available.  A senator cannot do anything about this, and will get the same response that you would get yourself if you ask.  Valid reasons for an expedite are based on other reasons, so check those out and decide if you qualify.  Good luck!

Thank You! Do you think a WoM is a good idea then? I’m an American citizen and my priority date is October 2018

Should be approved because it has been backlogged?  That is not a basis on which visas are approved.   Many people don't realize that, as early as April 2016 (well before Trump was elected),  there were over 1,000,000 I-130s pending in the USCIS pipeline.  To present, that pipeline has continued to feed NVC and the consulates.  Covid came along and shut down the process at the consulate level, allowing the full pipeline to bottleneck at NVC.  It will take years to recover to pre-Covid timelines, imo.

Another thing for you to consider is the possibility of a lengthy extended administrative processing period after the interview (MENA countries are more likely to be affected).  Good luck.  Waiting is the toughest part of this process.

A WOM could result in a denial.....especially if it forces a decision before all background checks are complete.

There was a post who sued DoS for not scheduling interview on time. The case was dismissed by the immigration court. Out of lots of good reasons for denial, one main important reason was, "There is no merit in prioritizing this person's case and scheduling the interview as all it does is pushes interview of others who have been waiting before him even further behind."

Has anyone ever won a WoM lawsuit case? Because I’m an American citizen born and raised here. Got married in 2018 there are people who got married after us and they already had there interviews and they all said file a writ of mandamus because that’s how they got there interview letters quicker so I don’t know what’s going on anymore

Each case is unique. I have read about WOM being unsuccessful because  they need to finish the background checks first. I do understand wanting to be over with, but waiting for more than a year is not a basis for a WOM.

Remember: each immigration path is unique. Just because others have done it, it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for you.

Senators can’t expedite anything. All they can do is to inquiry, and they get the same response as we do.

Thank you so much for the info. Typically how long does background check take
