next time don't tell them and fix it yourself for <$20.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

well take it to judge judy.. but since your kids broke the window. you admitted fault and you agreed to pay for it.. I dont see a problem pay the $ 600.00. if it was not for your kids playing ball near someone elses window it would have not been broken. for that I find for the defendant < your neighbours >

Well, before the original owner was put into a nursing home, she was an odd bird. Called the police on us in the middle of the night for having loud parites, fights, etc, that never happened. When she and her husband were still living there (he passed on), they threatened to poison our cats if they jumped into her yard. Once when one of their trees fell into our yard and broke their fence down, my ex offered to cut the tree up and put the fence back up if he could borrow their saw. Oh, they got really nasty about that. LOL So keeping the peace is not really the issue here. I offered, of my own free will, to reimburse them for the broken panes of glass. I did not offer to upgrade a car port with brand new storm windows.

I am willing to stand up to my part of the bargain and pay for the GLASS, as there was nothing wrong with the frames they were in. But to be expected to pay nearly $600.00 for replacement windows is not my idea of being fair, or neighborly.

I have to agree, Judge Judy does sound like a good idea, and fitting for this case. LOL

you will loose.. if you know anything about judge judy- she will eat you alive. so dont go on TV .. you will so make a fool out of yourself.. just pay the 600.00 since you did say you will pay for it.

Say if it was a car with a scratch, dent, you offer to fix (that much) usually they would give you an estimate of the expenses then you either agree or disagree at that point. Would you fix the whole side of a car with old dents . Replacing a pane of glass probably would not require a whole new frame, if that is what they chose to replace i would just still offer the glass amount unless your feeling very generous and rich. People do try to take advantage of others and parents are responsible for damage their kids do but........

the OP never said. " I will pay 200.00 " for example to fix the windows. instead she said " of my own free will, to reimburse". I think the OP put her foot in her mouth.

NO, It is you who have put their foot in their mouth, not me. If you had taken more time to read instead of running your mouth, you would have known that I said I would replace the broken window panes, not the whole danm frame, which is what she had replaced. Never did I say, "OH sure, my kids broke a window, so go ahead and replace them all and I will gladly pay for it".

Maybe before you write a disparaging remark about someone, you should make sure you know what you are talking about.

You did the right thing by offering to replace the panes of glass. It's a pity that these people are trying to take advantage, as you will, by having you pay for all new windows. I'd inform them that you will contact a company for an estimate on the glass replacement. They may change their tune. JMO......Good Luck tho

I kinda know what your going thru, yesterday we had a golf ball break one of our bow windows :crying: The guy didnt even want to own up to it either, but we got the estimate today and he's dropping off the money at the weekend.

Easy does it. You asked for opinions.

Yes, I did ask for constuctive opinions.

However, it seems that someone in this forum makes a bad habit of making nasty remarks about just about anything that any one posts here. I have seen the juvenile acts in more than one thread, and I find it quite rediculous. It's not name calling, it's the truth, and I am sure that I am not the only one to notice it.

Don't ask the question if you don't want an answer.

i've been thinking about this over the course of the night and those people really piss me off! you should get an estimate for fixing the glass only, show it to them, and just say, "i will pay you $__estimated amount__ and nothing more." i'd be willing to bet they'd take it! going to small claims court is a pain in the a$$. they won't want to bother. and if they do, definitely don't pay them yet. wait until you go to court ...but i still think you'd both win. they'd get the money for the glass from you, but they would have to pay the difference for the upgrade. that upgrade is ridiculous.

Best post ever.

And I would wager a guess that the people you're dealing with are just not honest. I wouldn't pay for an upgrade. I'd pay the cost of replacing the glass only.

Don't go on Judge Judy though....do you have any lawyer friends? I think a nice little batch of research, with actual amounts and a letter detailing what you agreed to pay and what you will pay ... to the person you spoke to originally should be enough to get this family to back down. Just because your kids broke something doesn't mean you have to pay for a dishonest homeowner's bullsh!t.

I'm with the OP on this one. Offering to fix does not mean replace & upgrade yourself at my expense! They broke glass, not the whole window w/frames. So only glass should be replaced (unless that would cost more than a new window). In any case, they should have given you an estimate before anything got done... not a bill for their upgrade.

I wouldn't take it to Judge Judy, she's mean and seems bi-polar. Sometimes, out of know where, she pulls crazy verdicts.
