After 50 mph it's just academic.

that must explain the "devil may care" attitude on the german autobahns, with speeds of 160+ mph :P

German driver candidates are heavily trained and tested, as opposed to the slack requirements here.

For example in the USA:

Can you see? check

Do you understand the basic rules? check

Can you parallel park? Check

Do you have the $ for the license? check

Allrighty then, Congrats.

On the other hand, German driver candidates actually get a comprehensive tactical driving program, just short of Bob Bondurant training.

Apples and oranges.

There are numerous places in the US where you don't even need the basics to get a DL. Parallel parking? Hahahahahahaha. Good one. Not a requirement here in FL. Nor was it in TN. Heck, here they don't even pretend that you need to be able to drive safely in actual traffic. Skills test takes 5 min tops and you're not even leaving the fcuking parking lot for it.

That's why there are so many accidents here. People truly can't operate a vehicle.

Well, there you go folks, states vary.

Clearly, driving in Germany at unlimited speed, in certain areas, is acceptable. Why? because the drivers have the proper training. Here we don't, unless lucky to get it on the job.

Back to topic, irrational fines in Virginia = Virginia sucks.

Happy I don't live there anymore.

Lets not even talk about the difference in the quality of roads.

A German road in comparison to a US road is like comparing a Audi A8 to a Russian Lada Niva..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Has anyone ever proved that increasing the fines on a particular crime will cause an effect of reducing the number of the particular crime being committed? I doubt you will find any scientific or statistical proof of such a cause and effect.

Everyone drives 10 to 25 miles per hour over the speed limit, unless you are lost, elderly, or perhaps asian. Furthermore a lot of places have speed traps and put artificially low speed limits. Cars and Roads are built much safer now-a-days and therefore speed is less a factor in accidents. Every accident I have seen or been a party to occurred at or below the speed limit. Most accidents are those where someone is not paying attention--not speeding. For example rear-ending by not stopping because they are following too closely or distracted.

If the government was really concerned about people driving at unsafe speeds then they should mandate that car manufactures install restrictive mechanism in the car's engine to prevent a vehicle from going above 55 miles per hour. And let's not forget that 55 miles per hour was set during a so called energy crisis by Jimmy Carter and not for any reasons of safety.

The US has one of the highest road death rates in the developed world. As well as some of the shittiest roads I have seen in the developed world. One person every 12 minutes dies on a US road.

I think the following will sum up why not to speed.

I don't know why they don't show this sort of stuff on TV in the US.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

But is that because of excessive speed? Or the fact that in the USA we have the highest ratio of cars to people and the longest commutes, the freedom to travel from coast to coast, and perhaps the most extensive highway system in the world. More people behind the wheel, more often, driving longer distances, are what accounts for the higher number of deaths on our highways--not just speeding.

Same in Sweden and you have to take an additional exam and driving course during the winter.......

Excessive speed, DUI, fatigue, drug use and inexperience are the main culprits. The other is people overestimating their ability to handle a car as well as the capability of their cars.

I have seen idiots do about 70mph on roads covered with snow, in a SUV full of kids.

Suspect combination of all the factors.
