No it is closed to non essential travel like the Canadian border.   However no covid tests are needed to enter the USA via Mexico.

I thought the Mexican border was wide open since late January. ??? confused

I think you mean it is closed to legal crossings.  Illegal crossings is a whole other matter.

So illegal crossings without a vaccine or covid test (or background check, health screening, ect.) are perfectly fine. But as of right now no legal crossings however soon legal crossings will be allowed only for the vaccinated. Seems reasonable and logical.

When Mrs.-T-B.-to-be was hosed by the ####### consulate in Guayaquil, I suggested glumly that if she were an illegal Mexican, she'd have been here already and on top of the world.  She didn't disagree.
