I always love this belief that the Covid vaccine protects anyone else other than the vaccinated.

"My responsibility as governor is to protect the people of this state, and requiring health care workers to get vaccinated accomplishes that," she said. "I stand behind this mandate, and I will fight this decision in court to keep New Yorkers safe."

So the way I read this is that religious exemptions that employees seek must be considered, but aren't necessarily granted. That sounds reasonable to me. Most major religions have come out in favor of vaccination.

Even if the decision is upheld, that doesn’t mean everyone seeking a religious exemption will get one.

“One of the implications is that there has to be an opportunity for employees to request accommodation,” said Alicia Ouellette, president and dean of Albany Law School. “It doesn't mean the employee is going to get the accommodation or that the employer is required to accommodate.”

Just because the management of a religion is in favor does not mean that a person follows that direction in their own religious practices.  Regardless, the statement the NY governor made was farcical.

That is totally irrelevant. Under the law you don't have to be a member of a organized religous group nor do you even have to disclose your specific religious objections to claim a religous exemption.
