Did you read all those articles? Wow, that was fast!!!

I go with what the industry and analysts say on this -- point to point is more exposed, and Southwest's union is saying their particular system is stretched thin. The Slate article goes into that. You don't even have to have a subscription to read it. :)

I never said I was, perhaps you are? Some people might call me a dilettante but I like to think of myself more as a generalist.

Right, time for the commute home.

Southwest operates on a point to point system unlike most other carriers that operate hub and spoke. When there are weather delays, point to point systems are more prone to serious knock on problems than hub and spoke. There's been a lot of reporting on this recently.

I just don't know why everyone assumes they know better than what is out there right now. You know if reporting came out and said definitively that it was a sickout, and then it turned out not to be, there would be pearl clutching that the reporting was so massively wrong. If all the players involved say "this is because of X, and NOT because of Y", why not do the minimum of saying "I will wait to see if I am correct" when you doubt without anything except editorializing to back up guesswork?

Initially it was said that weather and problems at Jacksonville's air traffic control center were to blame.

Wednesday I had an Allegiant Airlines pilot in the office and we were talking about this.  He told me he flew that day from SW Florida to the northeast and they had no problems with weather or Jacksonville.

So far no issues with Allegiant, at least not of the ordinary delays and cancellations, which my pilot friend says are way too frequent with them.

Could be more issues coming for everyone.  It seems the date has passed for these folks to be "fully" vaccinated if it is Moderna, and the deadline for Pfizer is fast approaching.  Might be a chaotic scene around Turkey Day.

40% of TSA agents remain unvaccinated as inoculation mandate deadline approaches

When there are more delays because TSA agents who refused the vaccine are fired it will be blamed on bad weather again and some people will believe whatever they are told by the corporate media. I guess all the healthcare worker shortages across the country caused by the workers refusing the vaccine that are getting worse by the day are really caused by bad weather too. All the supply chain issues must also be bad weather. Oh I almost forgot. The Amtrak delays gotta be bad weather too.
