Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Canada
Timeline

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I've been reading some conflicting information online.

I'm currently in the K1 process and waiting for an interview at the Montreal consulate. For the last two years, I've worked at one of the most busiest organizations in Canada that has a lot of direct involvement with Covid-19. As a result of this, and the delays/stresses of the K1 process, I've become very burnt out and depressed. To top it off, my fiancé left today after visiting for a week, and I am absolutely broken. I don't have a family doctor, and would likely have to go to the emergency room to get a note to take sick leave from work.

However, I am concerned that taking this leave could impact my eligibility to receive a K1 visa. Is there any truth to this concern, or am I just better to suck it up and continue as is?

Any help is appreciated.

If there aren't harmful behaviors associated with it then not an issue: https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/mental-health.html "The required examination includes evaluation of physical and mental disorders with associated harmful behaviors and substance use disorders."

I was very stressed about a similar issue when applying for my immigrant visa back in 2017, having battled with depressive episodes several times, and since I also have what is counted as a “neuropsychiatric” disorder.

Since this issue is something that will come up at the medical, the panel physician in Sweden said he wouldn’t approve of the medical unless I got a letter  from the medical practitioner treating my depression.

So all panicky after the exam, I called a psychologist at the clinic where I was treated. Their psychiatrist wrote a letter explaining my history with emotional illnesses, that I had not been hospitalized because of my conditions, and that I posed no danger to the health of others. I also had to have this letter translated from Swedish into English.

This delayed my visa issuance since by the time of my interview the medical file had not yet arrived at the embassy. Me and wifey sure cried on the phone when CEAC finally said “Issued.”

Getting there, slowly but surely...  (I hope )

When USCIS Misspells Your Name:

Typographical error form filled on USCIS website 1/4/2021
Contacted USCIS if there has been any progress since THEIR error (Received a Tier 1 tracking number) 2/6/2021
Contacted USCIS again as the issue remains to be resolved (Received ANOTHER Tier 1 tracking number) 3/12/2021
Apparently USCIS chat is worthless; CALLED USCIS, Tier 1 agent promised that a Tier 2 agent would call me 4/28/2021
Received a call from a nice Tier 2 officer who said I may or may not get a correct extension letter, but just in case I would be scheduled an InfoPASS appointment 5/4/2021
Went to local USCIS service center and had to deal with a nasty and entitled customer service agent who refused to give me an I-551 stamp. National Benefits Center is supposed to mail me another I-797 within 7-10 days... So I had to waste my day, taking buses for two hours one-way just to deal with this lady's attitude? 5/7/2021

After anxiously monitoring our mailbox for a few days I DID receive a corrected I-797, w00t! All documents good to go Vaccinated Ready to visit my parents in Europe for the first time in 17 months!!  5/13/2021

The lesson: Don't use the chat for anything complicated, AND keep hassling USCIS for a response...
