Interview Documents - proof of domicile, assets when still living in UK with spouse

Hey everyone,

I looked through a few threads and didn't see this question answered on them. Feel free to direct me to the right place if this is a common question!

My husband has his interview (CR1) with the US embassy in London in mid-October.

I am a US citizen, currently living in the UK. I didn't want to move to the US before given how uncertain this whole process has been timing wise, and I'm waiting on a promotion at work / planning to just internal transfer with them.

I used a bunch of evidence as proof of my US domicile (given I'm not currently living there), and used my assets in the affidavit of support in lieu of having a US income.

Do I need to print out all that evidence (e.g. 12 months of account statements) or will the interviewer have access to it given I uploaded it online?

I don't mind printing but I'm very aware that my evidence consists of hundreds of pages of documents.

The company transfer seems the crucial element, are you using that for the I 864?

as a US citizen it doesn't matter where in the world u work ,  u still are required to file US tax returns and they should be part of your I 864

the form 2555 is filed with them to exclude a large portion of foreign wages

I am assuming you went through NVC processing. Filling out your timeline and profile would help.

So no he doesn’t have to bring hard copies of the affidavit of support, your US tax return, or the asset evidence. It should be visible in your upload file. It is an excessive amount with 12 months of statements. Was that all in one file and the file small enough to be accepted for upload by NVC? London is generally not that strict or insistent on over-proving your assets.

Your husband will need to bring originals of his documents for verification… like birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate, and military docs, name changes, divorces etc if applicable.

London is generally not very strict on domicile or intent to domicile. What did you have?

Thank you for this advice. I'll update my timeline.

We were able to upload everything via multiple uploads. It was definitely excessive.

I have intent to domicile. I have printed a copy of my passport but used a lot of other evidence to support it so maybe I will just print this out just in case as I think they mentioned proof of domicile is decided at the interview.

I just used my assets for the I-864 (I think I’m cleared for that part).

It’s more the proof of domicile and actually figuring out what documents I need to give to my spouse to bring for the interview.  The interview is on Monday so I can update here in case it’s helpful for others.

Interview went well. As mentioned here, they didn’t ask to see any supporting evidence relating to our intent to domicile or affidavit of support.

Apparently HK police certificates are hugely delayed… as we found out at the interview they still hadn’t received it (it should have been with the embassy in July). Might be worth checking on those foreign police reports for those that are sent directly to the embassy!

So do you have to wait for it to arrive before they issue your visa? Are you the one who had a digital copy and wondered if that would do since the hard copy had not arrived. I forgot who posted that.

We got confirmation from HK that the police certificates are taking 3-4 months for delivery to the US embassies due to COVID-19. Ours should arrive soon then! But they didn’t acknowledge our request for a digital copy.
