I found out that, and please correct me if I am wrong, that I do not need to be the financial sponsor for my husband because he has more than 40 credit hours of work. He/we would file the I864W form for him instead of the I864. To me this .sounds like good news. Here is the reason for this post:

We live separately (2 different countries) but I visit him around every 3 months. I am trying to figure out if I could visit him more often because now I do not have the burden of being his financial sponsor. Although, the other part of this scenario is that actually, if I have to be his financial sponsor, I am wondering, and if anyone here can help me with this, I am wondering if I can use my assets to be his sponsor. I have an IRA that more than covers the 3x times financial responsibility.

I have read of couples who live together in whatever country and they ask if they can start the green card process from wherever it is that they are living. The response I see given is that yes, you can do the process from wherever so long as you have a sponsor lined up and you have a place in the U.S. where you will live. So given the information above, I do not need to worry about the financial part right? And as far as an address in the U.S., I still will have my place there because I would be traveling back and forth. Thank you for any insights and opinions.

He was given a legitimate social security number when he was given a temporary work permit.

*forgot to add, and he worked here in the U.S. for the same company for 19 years.

Yes you can use the I-864w, and you can file from wherever you want.  Yes, if your liquid assets are comfortably over the 3x requirement, that is another option.  Note the term liquid.  There are penalties for early withdrawal, so consideration is given to the actual amount available to you, regardless of the statement balance.
