Hello,

My Mother had a Medical Exam for IR5 visa interview. She is 76 born in india, She did well during her Vision exam. Her Blood and urine test was waived due to age. She received couple of vaccines.

However during physical exam she was tired and half a sleep, The doctor panel was not satisfied with her physical exam . I was asked to write her medicines and she is taking sleeping pills / anti depressant named Bromazepam 3MG 4 tablets a day. Also she was on wheel chair and did not walk.

As per Medical officer, She is bed bound and won't be able to travel to USA , Also Medical officer called out for Drug Abuse. My response was that she is 76 and when she is comfortable she don't like to walk and those sleeping pills are helping her to sleep and she is used to these medicines.

medical officer told me that they will update the Embassy with their finding.

I am scared now,  How much of a bigger problem we are dealing with? can they declare her a drug abuse case and make her inadmissible. This is her second green card attempt she had green card 20 years back but decided to move back

any one familiar with these kind of situations please provide some guidance.

Unfotunately, yes they can say that as the medical officer.  It is up to the embassy to decide that due to your mother's medical condition will she be a public charge when she arrives in the US.

Public charge is the bigger problem, she will not be coming.   Do you already have medical coverage for your mother n place?

Drug abuse can be overcome with a one year ban, counseling and treatment to ween her off the medications.

What you think is a bigger issue? Public Charge or Drug Abuse , she is taking anti-depressant that is very common to her age group in my opinion.  I am thinking to add a joint sponsor to help with public charge issue.

The bigger issue is that the physician already stated she CANNOT travel.
