I'm at the very last stages of filling out our packet, and the last box I need to fill is Page 8, Part 5, #4.  I previously sponsored my now ex-wife; I don't have anything from that petition saved, and have had basically no contact with her for years.  It's asking what day I filed her petition, over a decade ago; by going over old emails, I figured out approximately when, but don't have an exact date.  If I just put month and year and leave the days X'ed out or with question marks (05/XX/2009 or 05/??/2009, for example), would that be acceptable?

I really don't want to contact her and would rather just keep communication lines down.  I'm currently on hold with USCIS to try to speak to an agent; it's been an hour and I'm concerned I won't be able to get ahold of anyone.

The approximate date is fine.......as well as "unknown".

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Correct, but I would not use unknown in this situation.  If you have to print then hand write, that's ok too.
