@OldUser I get that, but there is still a hope and you can always ask for your cases to be merged and they may grant it. Anyhoo after one gets approved for N-400 who would really care about pending I-751 at that point )

From what I understand, N-400 doesn't get approved until I-751 is approved. If your extension letter expires after N-400 interview - you still need to get I-551 stamp while i-751 is pending etc. But hopefully you'll get a combo, fingers crossed.

Thanks, that would be the best and most convenient  scenario 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I know I'm preaching to the choir but it seems moronic that they'd have someone go through the citizenship interview and then make them wait another year or more for the 751 interview. Sounds like some of our elected representatives need to be pushed to force a change in agency policy.

I feel and share your pain. But once in while I see horrendous stories posted about clear abuse of the system.

Howdy everyone! Just found this useful website via reddit. I’m in the same boat as all of October 2021 filers. I’m pondering on filing for N-400 on Oct 16 as I’ve heard that it speeds up the process a lot and merges your cases with a combo interview. My understanding is that N-400 timeline for SF field office is currently anything in between 4 to 8ish months. Sounds more promising than having my 10y green card any time soon 😼

Here is my timeline for CA Service Center(WAC) so far. No more updates atm.

I-751 timeline(ROC):

  • Sent by USPS certified mail with return
  • receipt on 10/25/2021
  • Delivered to Arizona lockbox on 10/28/2021
  • USCIS cashed the check on 11/2/2021
  • Received I-797 NOA on 11/5/2021
  • Fingerprints were reused as of March 11

Same received date here!! We have 2 approved people so far….

It reminds me of that saying (paraphrasing), "I'd rather see 1 guilty person go free than to imprison 99 innocent men."

The current I-751 system is more akin to seeing 99 innocent people  imprisoned so that 1 guilty person does not go free.

Hi everyone!

I filed I-751 for my daughter and I October 12, 2021. They reused our biometrics (I love how they still keep the 85 bucks/person! 😂).

13 days ago on August 5th (in the case tracker app) there was an update that says “I-131- Case closed, benefit received by other means”.
Just one, not one for each of us.

And then nothing since.
What do you make of that?

Somehow it appears to be more of an internal message for them than for you, dunno why they bothered putting it on your “check my case” database. Can’t make much of this info alas.

@Cheschirecat  🥳🥳🥳 Yeah, I couldn’t manage to read all 30+ pages of this discussion but I still did my homework and perused maybe the last 4-5(?) and noticed those 2 lucky people. How must be exciting to have this load off the shoulders 🥹 We’ll all get there sooner or later though I’d appreciate it rather sooner ))

I-131 or I-751?

I-131

It’s the travel authorization that we file alongside the I-751.

I got similar messages about accompanying documents when we got our green cards originally “benefit obtained by other means”, but they came after our original green cards were mailed.

Why would you file I-131 with an I-751?

Are living outside the USA?

No no, we’ve been here since we immigrated (my daughter and I). Haven’t been back home to visit since I left in 2019.

The I-131 was just part of the I-751 package.
