we did update our addresses with the ALEA via document. Alabama does not require you to purchase a duplicate document just because you move. We just moved beginning of this month. I think i am just going to wait to file until i update my driver license. A lot of my mail and documents still have my old address on it though.

@lil.han ‘s profile indicates a residency in Alabama.

In at least  one other state you aren’t permitted to change the address on your drivers license after a move until you get a renewal.

So follow state law.

Mailed I-751 today and my wife’s GC expires 01-22-2022. Everything went well except I forgot to fill out the “from” and “Address” portion of the money order. Will this be a problem?

Thanks for replying, I don’t know why it’s just making me nervous. Everything is already listed on the cover letter attached to the whole package and I did fill the “pay to” portion (US department of homeland security)

I had the wrong state and didn't know that about Alabama. I wouldn't worry. Both IDs. showing your old address, still show that you live together.

Sent ROC package to Phoenix.  It was officially delivered today.  Now waiting for a text notification, NOA letter.  And then the wait begins... again...

Good luck to all.  Hoping for quick approvals for all of us.

Hello everyone,

I am about send my  petition packet and  I have some questions:

1- reading the instructions on the USCIS website, it appears attachments has to be numbered and that I need to reference my USCIS number and name. Does it mean I can just hand write those details on the attachments?

2- Is Phoenix the only place I can file the petition (if resident in the US)? I don't see alternative addresses on the USCIS website, but I have read some posts where people were mentioning other USCIS offices and that got me wondering.

3-Do I have to put N/A on each box that does not apply to my situation? For example, I don't have a second name, I don't have children, a preparer, translator, etc. Should I just put a bunch of N/As or leave those fields blank?

4- Can I mail Form G-1450 with the package to pay fees by credit card? Did any of you use that instead of cheque or money order? I was reading that some USCIS offices do not accept that method so I am not sure if Phoenix is one of those.

5- Which colour pen did you use to wet sign the document? The USCIS website says black ink should be use, but I read a post mentioning rejections due to blue ink not used for the wet signature and I started panicking.

Thanks in advance. Wishing everyone a speedy petition :)

1. We didn’t number or write our names and A # on our attachments. On our cover letter, we listed everything that was sent and exactly how it was separated. We separated it with binder clips and paper clips. Did the same thing during AOS and it was fine.

2. Everyone sends their application to the same Phoenix address. It just differs based on your shipping method. USPS vs UPS and FedEx. When it gets there, they then send it to the office for your area.

3. We didn’t use N/A. We just left what didn’t apply to us blank. I know some people do and others don’t. Same thing during our AOS process. We left them blank. Mostly though, I was very nervous to put it in the wrong place. In another I-751 website forum, someone got their application rejected because they put N/A for middle name. And the computer thought the name was John N/A Doe. If you’re putting N/A, I think for names especially, you should leave it blank.

4. A lot of people did use credit cards for their payment. As to some offices not accepting card payments, we were worried about that same thing. We didn’t know what our office would be and if they were accepting credit card payments. I think you’ll be fine with it. We did send a personal check from our joint account though.

5. As to the color pen, we used a black ink pen. Not sure about blue ink. But its pretty simple to use a black ink pen, if you’re worried about using a blue.

Hope that helps. Good luck on your application!

We did write my husband's alien number on each page. I'm not sure it's necessary, but we felt it couldn't hurt. We also wrote N/A in each box that doesn't apply. This is as per USCIS instructions. We paid by credit card, using form G-1450, and it was accepted at the Phoenix address for USPS. Put it on top of the whole package. We used black pen. So far, so good! Also, as per USCIS instructions, we punched two holes at the top of each page and fastened the whole thing with an ACCO clip. We divided each section with a paper clip. You don't have to do it this way, but their website says that they "appreciate" two holes having been punched. We signed with a black pen.

Best of luck to you!

Wrote my alien number AND a page number at the top of each sheet of paper we sent in my I-751 packet. USCIS seem to be notorious for losing documents, or possibly by not scanning all the pages, so I wanted make sure as many of the documents sent would make it to my file 😉

Found out (here on VisaJourney) after the packet was sent that their high-speed industrial scanners can’t handle color highlighters 😓 Had highlighted quite a few parts on our joint account bank statements…

Getting there, slowly but surely...  (I hope )

I-797 (with My Last Name Misspelled...) Received by Mail 1/2/2021

Biometrics Appointment Received by Mail...too bad I am in Europe right when it's supposed to take place 🤯 6/14/2021

Rescheduled Biometrics Appointment, the biometric technician can't change the misspelled name on file, but he enters the correct spelling of my last name as an alias 8/2/2021

When USCIS Misspells Your Name:

Typographical error form filled on USCIS website 1/4/2021
Contacted USCIS if there has been any progress since THEIR error (Received a Tier 1 tracking number) 2/6/2021
Contacted USCIS again as the issue remains to be resolved (Received ANOTHER Tier 1 tracking number) 3/12/2021
Apparently USCIS chat is worthless; CALLED USCIS, Tier 1 agent promised that a Tier 2 agent would call me 4/28/2021
Received a call from a nice Tier 2 officer who said I may or may not get a correct extension letter, but just in case I would be scheduled an InfoPASS appointment 5/4/2021
Went to local USCIS service center and had to deal with a nasty and entitled customer service agent who refused to give me an I-551 stamp. National Benefits Center is supposed to mail me another I-797 within 7-10 days... So I had to waste my day, taking buses for two hours one-way just to deal with this lady's attitude? 5/7/2021

After anxiously monitoring our mailbox for a few days I DID receive a corrected I-797, w00t! All documents good to go Vaccinated Ready to visit my parents in Europe for the first time in 17 months!!  5/13/2021

The lesson: Don't use the chat for anything complicated, AND keep hassling USCIS for a response...

If you search this site using the keyword "highlight", you'll see that many, many people have done this. It seems that, as long as you didn't highlight anything on the form itself,  you don't need to worry.
