"letter of invitation is a formal letter that a U.S. legal resident or citizen writes to invite their foreign relative to their home. Through this letter, the host confirms that they are able to accommodate the guest into their home and guarantees that the visitor will return home once their visa expires.

Additionally, the host must prove the relationship between them and the guest, and that they have enough funds to cover their entire period of stay in the United States." Althought letter of invitation is not mandatory but it does help up to certain extent that's why it's better to write one in my opinion.

Of course I didn't see, just based on the facts it made a big difference

Before I was like most who thought support letter was a waste of time, but in some cases it can be a difference maker

You can't invent the facts to suit your logic.

Car 1 and Car 2 entered the same intersection at separate times.

Car 1 had Captain America Shield on its roof. It crossed the intersection with no issues.

Car 2 had nothing on its top, it got salvaged by a red light runner from the other road.

The person who was just looking at Car 1 and Car 2 and nothing else came with a conclusion:

"The fact is if you put Captain America's shield on top of your car, you will pass the intersection safely".

I am not admitting to any thing. Based on my personal experience I feel my letter of invitation played a role in getting my parents Visas. Its upto the poster whether he writes a letter of invitation or not. You and other poster can have their opinion and Ill have mine.

The “opinion” backed by the Dept of State website by definition holds more weight with those Dept of State employees issuing visas than some arbitrary website that even you admit is saying things that can’t be backed up,  but sure you can have any opinion you want and express it, that’s the joy of the internet. I can “have an opinion” that wearing striped shirts gets you a visa because three people I know went to their interviews in striped shirts and they all got visas, but we all know that wasn’t really the reason. You keep emphasizing this letter to try prove a point and only by the way talking about the ties to home in property etc, which is (read the official website) 99.9% certain what actually mattered.

I assume this is where it came from, a generic web site where English does not seem to be the first language of the contributors.

If somebody insists they need a letter of invitation I would supply it, I can not see how it is a positive, after all there tend to be few doubts as to why somebody would want to visit in this case children, why would there be?

Strikes me as better to show you can afford your trip and are not dependent on others, that would be normal. Going on vacation half way around the world on somebody else dime would I have thought raise eyebrows.

I am proving a point because thats what I experience and you are trying to prove a point that I am wrong where as I never once said that letter of invitation will guarantee the applicant will get the visa. I only said it helps to build a case thats all.

I think in general a letter of invitation stating they will cover expenses is not needed.  But just a few years a US Citizen living in Philippines did one for 5 people who was either his sisters and or they were his uncles.

The older woman from Philippines were approved which is pretty normal for a tourist visa, the kicker was the 3 youth all being around age 25 were two females and one male working in Singapore they are Philippines citizens they were all approved.

Just about 6 month later another single female cousin filed for tourist visa in Singapore and she was from Philippines, and she was denied.  So I saw that letter actually make a difference.

You can take that to the bank and it changed my mind.

I live in Korea (I am not a Korean citizen). I applied for a visitor visa to the States at the end of my contract! My intention was to travel the States for a month to visit various friends (I was not dating a USC citizen at the time). A friend of mine (from the same country, also living in Korea) wanted to visit the States at the end of his contract to meet his USC girlfriend's family.

He took a letter of invitation to the embassy, I didn't. I received my visa, he didn't.

In my experience, having family ties to the States/ support in the States is more of a hinderance than a help. But, I have friends who've qualified for a B1/B2 visa  while living in Korea (not Korean citizens) and married to a USC. It all depends on your ties to your country of residence/ home country and how you answer questions in the interview. I don't think the letters help at all.

The reason this thread is rife with misinformation and misunderstandings comes from people who insist that an invitation letter makes a difference in granting a visa in explicit contradiction to the State Department's written statement that invitation letters are not considered in granting a visa.
