ROC Driver's License Renewal - Chicago Area

Hi everyone,

Was just reading on here that some people have had issues renewing DL due to some DMVs not accepting the ROC extension letter as a valid document. I live in the Chicago area. Does anyone know which locations accept the I797 NOA form?

Thanks in advance!

Unless the DMV doesn't know what it's doing. They should absolutely accept the expired greencard and extension letter together.

Mine didn't even question it.

I went to the chicago west facility in the first week of September. My i797 said my conditional resident status was extended 18 months past the expiration date on the green card, but the staff knew that those letters were now being extended to 24 months so they gave me a drivers license with an expiration date of 2 years from the expiration date on my green card. I was in and out within 30 minutes with a temporary paper license and my Real ID compliant license came in the mail about 10 days later.

I went to one in Naperville. Only reason letter even come up they asked me if i want to register to vote. I said. No. Why ? Not a citizen. They were like do u have GC ? Showed it with extension letter. Was no problem at all. They issued standard DL expiration of 4 years. I suppose it depends what clerk you get more than anything.

Hubby went to Bridgeview to renew his and had no problem (other than having to stand in line for like 4h!!!!)  He just showed his letter and his current license.
