Do I need to call Maryland SSA office or visit local security office. When I contacted local ssn office, they mentioned status is pending verification. It’s been already month I applied for ssn. Can you let me know how long did it take for you to receive ssn card ?

Only the local office can help you, I believe. I called the 1-800 number and was told they can’t give information about individual cases. My card took two months from application to arrival, but I also believe had I not consistently rung and chased them, it would have come later or not at all.

In my case, status says “case returned to Maryland ssa office “. Did that happen to you too? And local office keep on saying pending verification? Did you had the same issue before you received your card or something else?

Yep. I had the same thing. I just kept calling once a week or something close, just making sure they didn’t forget about me etc etc.

Any idea what local office did to ensure your verification is done? Like sending a reminder to dhs or started manual processing?

I don't think they have any mechanism for speeding DHS up. In my case it was necessary to continually call them as it was clear that otherwise they would have left me at the bottom of the pile and potentially allowed me to time out.

@Navatha - I am also in the same boat as you. We applied for SSN almost 4+ weeks back and the status now says "case returned to agency". When I called the local SSA office after completing the 4 weeks , they said that its still pending verification with DHS. Did you have any luck yet. I will try to call again after we complete the 5th week.

If the status is case returned to agency, mail out to save help team( save.help@uscis.dhs.gov ),provide case verification number ,name and dob. They’ll let you know when was last response sent to ssn office. Based on the response, contact local ssn office and tell them "there should be response on so and so day". If agent who answers your call is knowledgeable, they should be able to help you. Attached format how I sent email to savehelp. Hope this helps!

Thanks @Navatha . We haven't applied for EAD or started the adjustment of status process yet. Should we still send the email to "save help team" to complete the verification sooner and return back with an update to SSN office.

@Navatha Did you receive your SSN? I am also in the situation, I have applied for SSN in September 2021 and the SSN office is saying it is pending with DHS. But the SAVE case says the case is returned to agency.
