Hello

I am traveling to Morocco to marry my fiance and would like to get feedback on other experiences.  I am not Muslim and keep getting different information about the marriage.

First of all "if this is your first visit ,  don't marry "

you need plenty of quality time with your intended to pass any visa interview in Casablanca embassy

marriage on 1st visit will usually result in denial

second Congratulations

i am married to one now over 11 and 1/2 years happily

third all the info  to marry is on the US embassy casa site

https://ma.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/marriage-information/

Fourth don't listen to Facebook or Twitter or others -wrong info

fifth:  a Muslim man in Moroc can marry outside the faith (Christian or Jewish)

there is considerable traveling around Moroc to get all the paperwork done

1. to US embassy Casa (appointment needed) for the letter of eligibility to marry

2. then in casa get all US documents translated (this part is the most expensive part of the whole process as 6 copies needed at about $10 a page)

3. then take the embassy paper to Rabat for a document from there

4. back to his home city or providence to interview with police and judge

5. wait for permission to marry and sign papers in court (that's the marriage)

BTW you'll love the dress(es) they bring for your marriage celebration afterward

I should indicate Red Flags for visa in this embassy:

1. marriage on 1st trip

2.  age difference when woman is 10 years or more older than the man

3.  not enough time spent together ( i spent 6 months and had 5 trips but we had a big age difference )

4. USC sending money to Moroccan

5. Moroccan family does not approve (send photos of u with family especially the mom)

6.  Moroccan has little command of English language

7.  Moroccan has no idea of plans in America (like work or study and how to do it)

OR

8. CO at embassy just plain does not think the relationship is bona fida

And K1 fiancee visa is not a good idea in Morocco

plus more expensive in the long run

Everything Jeanne said.

Especially if your are just seeing him face to face for the 1st time, and I don't mean on the computer, do not marry on first visit.

True especially since it looks like this user had a refused K1. I would wait a little and build a strong case

  • 3 months later...

Timeline

I am 19 1/2 years older than my husband. I went to Morocco to visit for a week, after chatting online for a year. Then I went back in the summer and stayed for 2 1/2 months.  I was going to marry him there, and got the paperwork going from Casa and Rabat, (A guy helped me - he was standing outside the bus terminal in Rabat and took me to do all my paperwork and translation). But we didn't end up getting married because his dad took the family book and went to the country with it so we couldn't. Plus his dad threatened to call the police on us, but fortunately he didn't know where we had rented an apartment. I have never met his parents or siblings. So, I applied for K1 for him about 6 months later. At his interview they asked why we didn't get married in Morocco, he explained about his dad,  and they gave him the visa. He was a teacher in Morocco and can speak English. They did ask him what he was going to do here and he said something about using his Arabic for translation, which he didn't actually do once he got here. We will have been married now for 10 years in March.  I wasn't Muslim either, by the way. I also front loaded the application with pictures of us together in Morocco, a brief explanation of how we met, and some carefully selected chat examples.
