Sorry to hear about your mom, I was able to expedite last year claiming financial loss to a person after getting a job offer but I could only expedite after they took my biometrics.

they wouldn’t let me expedite before that..

Best way to get an expedite is to have a written job offer.

Financial hardship of a foreign family member is unlikely to be an acceptable reason for an expedite.  Lots of people have vulnerable family members abroad.  This is one of the downside of the K-1; having to wait 6-8 months for an EAD.

Apply for a job that is willing to provide you with a job offer letter stating that if USCIS gives you your EAD, they will hire you.

That's the EAD expedite protocol.

Please see below. You will call them and the USCIS officer on the phone will ask you a series of questions (basically repeating what is written in the link below and asking you to confirm what is the basis of your expedite). They will then give you a referral ID as a reference. The officer on the phone told me that I was supposed to get an email after with instructions to send supporting documentation. I have not received that email yet. Start by calling them and see where it goes.
