What happens if K1 expires?

So I am in this horrible situation where my K1 visa was approved and I had it since the 3rd of August.

Right now in Malaysia, we can't exit the country and need to apply via this travel pass to exit the country.
I did just that and got rejected. Apparently a lot of people who have fiance and marriage visas are seen as "non-essential", and they can reject our application (eventhough with valid documents) based on how they feel like.

Adding to this, it takes them (now) a MONTH for them to approve an application.

My K1 expires on the 16th of December. I got rejected on the first round, applied for a 2nd try to exit and still have not gotten any approval.

I am 2 months down, and I have 2 1/2 months left and I am getting worried.
If I were to get rejected again, I'd be close to my visa expiring.

With that, what happens if my K1 visa expires just because the government doesn't let us out?

Note that the K1 visa expires when the medical expires (i.e. 6 months from the date of the medical, not the date the visa was issued).

You can try to have the consulate re-validate the visa since the travel restrictions are beyond your control and you can show proof that you tried your best to exit the country. This would involve doing a new medical, police certificates.

However, this is at the discretion of the consulate. Worth trying though. I hope it won’t come to that and you’ll be able to exit the country soon!

In mind, it seems like a police state to prohibit people from leaving when they have valid travel documents.  As mentioned above, if a visa expires due to circumstances beyond the control of the visa holder, the consulate can, at their discretion, re-issue the visa.  This will require a new medical, fees, and possibly another interview.  Good luck.

Thank you so much.
yes my medical expires on the same day as my visa.

it’s really frustrating. Some managed to leave on a K1 visa, others had to apply about 5 times. I don’t think I’ll get that many chances but it is a sad situation.

It is becoming one. Some managed to leave on a K1 visa earlier in the year but at this point, it’s like a lottery approval, even with visa and valid documents. It’s frustrating and stressful.

It is definitely behind my control as we can’t leave without an approval letter from immigration. We can even wait a month for them to look at our documents and them rejecting it without helping us. We’re all applying in the dark.

I do have proof of when I apply and receive rejections from immigration. I hope that’s enough to prove everything if worse comes to worse. 😭
