Infopass appointment - 09/22/2021 - Received six month stamping on passport

Well, I went for info pass appointment yesterday and the officer is not exactly friendly. Here is my experience,

Me: Hi officer

Officer : Why are you here?

Me: Infopass appointment

Officer: I know that, why are you here ?

Me: For temporary extension of my gc

Officer: Why are you here?

Me: To have a stamp in my passport

Officer: Okay, sit and give me you passport and other documents. What is your first name and address.

Me: Answered the questions. Later officer is looking at my new passport like thoroughly ( I just got a new one and I carried my expired one with me as well, just in case. So, I thought to ask if officer requires my old passport as well)

Me: Officer, that's my new passport and I (was about to tell I brought old passport as well)

Officer: Interrupted me and said, don't you think I know that. I am doing this job from long time. Do you want to tell me how to do my job? I handle lots of people everyday

Me: Sorry, I was just trying to ask if you need my old passport as well as it got all of my previous travel details

Officer: Silent for a moment, stamped my passport and said. Call us again after 5 months for another temporary extension. Have a good day

Me: Okay. I kept my letter from 07/18 on desk which says my case is transferred to NBC and asked if may I know the status

Officer: I don't understand you. What do you want

Me: May I know the current status of my case

Officer: You will be having an interview. These kind of cases always have interviews. And that's going to be in Dallas unless you move. There are thousands of people waiting for their cards, not just you. These cases might take 3 years or more, we don't know. Call again after 5 months and get another extension. Take care for now.

Me: Okay, thanks officer

                     I have few questions,

                      1. Are these the same officers who does interview as well or is it just clerical staff who does the stampings?

                      2. Since this officer told me there is going to be interview, does that mean I am going to have one for sure? Do they usually have details?

                      3. Are 6 month extensions common? I heard they usually give one year extensions?

                                       Appreciate your help, thanks

Where did this happen?  We went to Irving, Texas, for an I-551 stamp on September 2.   The security, reception person, the 1st screener, and the officer were all VERY nice and polite.  We were in and out of the service center in 30 minutes.  They even answered my question about which address they had listed for us.  My wife received a 6 month. stamp as well.

They do not have any details regarding your interview.  However, they probably know that a long pending I-751 will, likely, get an interview.  Since my wife entered via a CR-1, I am sure we WILL have an interview.  Her case does not meet the requirements for an interview waiver.

Note:  They asked my wife for her parents' first names.

I'm sorry you have had a rough ROC journey.  We filed a joint I-751 in March 2019.....The status has been "....ready to be scheduled for an interview"  since May 2019.  In a few months, my wife will be able to file for citizenship under the 5 year rule....LOL.

Lol.  That's a long wait. Hopefully they don't change my status to 'ready to be scheduled for an interview' as well. I can't wait another 3 years.

Actually, I am in the middle of divorce. Filed this August and it might take another 2-3 months. So, that I will have my final papers by the time I go for my next i-551 stamping.

Hello guys!

As my extension letter expired this month I had my 551 stamp appointment 2 hours ago in Irving, TX.

The officer was nice, we chit chat about military and traveling and I got my stamp for 1 year.

There were 2 other officers and everyone seems to be amazingly friendly.

Sorry you had a tough time.. Had a similarly crappy experience when trying to get an ADIT stamp at the Santa Ana, CA service center back in May. I don't know if some Infopass people get on a power trip because they work for immigration? The security people were very jovial and nice as was the lady after security who was checking people's paperwork.

In my case, the lady (obviously a child of immigrants, too) was basically interrogating me why I am there, and why do I need the stamp. She had a stupid motivational poster in her cubicle saying something like "Be a Boss, but Act Like a Lady" 🙄 Had I known it was an option, I would have asked for a supervisor. That's how bad it was, and I am not usually that much of a Karen/Ken.

She was questioning my every statement as if I had committed a serious crime by asking for an I-551 stamp. I explained the situation that USCIS had misspelled my last name on the notice letter, and Tier 2 officer told me on the phone that my best option would be getting an ADIT stamp. She was like, "they can't make the call that you qualify, they are not officers, they just make appointments". I told her that the gentleman who called man back presented himself as an USCIS officer (Tier 2). Then I was like I need this in order to travel internationally, and she barks at me: "Who says that?" So I am like "The airline will not let me board if my name is spelled wrong." I know I couldn't, but I really wanted to tell her off. Is she responsible if I am not allowed to board? Is USCIS going to pay for my new flight if I don't have the correct documents? 😑

Then when I asked about the eventual biometrics appointment and its location (people living within the very next zip code from us, basically two blocks over) are assigned to a completely different Service Center, she was again barking at me how the biometrics appointment will take place at the ASC in x or at the ASC in y. And I am like (having checked the USCIS website which would be the ASC for my ZIP code), I thought people who live in z, are going to go to such-and-such a place. I was merely asking of if there were other options since I am sadly dependent on public transportation, and those ASCs she mentioned are really far. Just getting to the Santa Ana service center takes nearly two hours by buses (one way only). Then this "boss lady" is like, well, it's your own choice you do not drive 😑 Excuse me, do you know details about my disability/condition that allows you make such ridiculous assumptions that I CHOOSE not to drive?!

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Just so fed up with these people getting away with such a behavior. I know at any other job, you could be written up for such "customer service."

Getting there, slowly but surely...  (I hope )

When USCIS Misspells Your Name:

Typographical error form filled on USCIS website 1/4/2021
Contacted USCIS if there has been any progress since THEIR error (Received a Tier 1 tracking number) 2/6/2021
Contacted USCIS again as the issue remains to be resolved (Received ANOTHER Tier 1 tracking number) 3/12/2021
Apparently USCIS chat is worthless; CALLED USCIS, Tier 1 agent promised that a Tier 2 agent would call me 4/28/2021
Received a call from a nice Tier 2 officer who said I may or may not get a correct extension letter, but just in case I would be scheduled an InfoPASS appointment 5/4/2021
Went to local USCIS service center and had to deal with a nasty and entitled customer service agent who refused to give me an I-551 stamp. National Benefits Center is supposed to mail me another I-797 within 7-10 days... So I had to waste my day, taking buses for two hours one-way just to deal with this lady's attitude? 5/7/2021

After anxiously monitoring our mailbox for a few days I DID receive a corrected I-797, w00t! All documents good to go Vaccinated Ready to visit my parents in Europe for the first time in 17 months!!  5/13/2021

The lesson: Don't use the chat for anything complicated, AND keep hassling USCIS for a response...

Maybe, USCIS likes to issue i551 stamps within 30 days of the expiration of your extension letter so you are asking early. Bring proof of travel to get your stamp and perhaps you can get them to issue you the stamp early.

It is possible USCIS may send an updated 24 month extension letter in time to help you out, or maybe you will get approved in time.

Good luck.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi all, same like you I am waiting for my ROC as well..

Submit I-751 - Nov 2019

Got extension within the same month
Got letter for biometric finger print in Feb 2020

Oct 2020 - got a online notification that case was approved and card was being produced... No NOA.. NO card received... within the same month they updated the notification to case being transferred to another service center... no news after that...

Nov 2020 - called them and asked for updates.. got the same answer to what I can already see online... asked case to be be escalated..

Dec 2020 - someone called me back and told me that my case was closed and they are reopening it... I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean..

Jan and Apr 2021 - I submitted an inquiry again.. and they told me case is being processed at my local field office and interview is needed.. again all this are just emails and no NOA from USCIS

My extension is expired on July 30th, 2021, got the I-551 ADIT stamp, for an extension.

It's been 23months now.. I'm not sure what else to do.. :(

Any advise from any one where to go or what to do after this?

Or just another waiting game?

No I have not submit N400 yet.. although been living in US since Feb 2017.. I'm waiting for my 10years GR!! :(
