Timeline

Need some trust-busting like Teddy Roosevelt did.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The problem is that so many people fall for the FB/YT/IG, etc. bull that they will become rich and famous.  When people really look at these social media behemoths, they may come to realize they provide nothing of value and are only pimping out those gullible enough to believe they serve a purpose.

There are... a lot of things wrong with America, NB. I can't say that facebook is *the thing* though. Simply because disinfo and misinfo and psyopinfo and malicious info has been around since before facebook existed.

And FB/IG/T, etc. have grown that market to exponential proportions all while profiting off your information.

Sure they do, but one should keep in mind that if they insist on signing up and utilizing these sites, they agree to whatever the companies want.

Hence my position that these companies provide no benefit to anyone that does sign up for them, and no benefit for humanity.

Who are we to decide what benefit they provide though? People who actively use them say it provides them 'greater connectivity' to family and friends or the ability to find 'like-minded people' or similar to this forum, have a discussion with others about subjects they are interested in. Some people do make money off of it, and others find some kind of psychological gratification (either good or bad depending on perspective).

If one wants to stay connected with family and friends, or that long lost friend from 1st grade, pick up the phone.  Personally, I really don't care if people want to give up their freedom/privacy to a real bad company like FB, heck, as posted sometime ago, FB is trying to appeal to children now just like the tobacco companies did.  Whatever, use these cesspools, don't use them, but don't try to convince me that FB/T/IG, or whatever provides any benefit other than to make themselves money.

Agree 1,000%.  Closing my FB account was one of the best things I've done in life.  It had truly become a cesspool.

I agree. I have so much time on my hands at work I have found myself staring at my phone all day. I have to admit I think its addictive as drugs.

Still I really enjoy keeping up with all the folks I grew up with or watching my rich jet setting friends flying all over with their young trophy wives

I quit FB a year ago and haven't missed it. I was mostly on to be a member of a few groups, and for FB messenger group chats. I only keep my account now for one Messenger group chat, and believe me, I have tried to get the people on that to decamp to another platform. Since it's my close family, I can't just nope out of it and go all

 on fire burn GIF

Honestly, it's the older people in my family who are the most resistant to leaving. They know FB and are comfortable with it. I managed to steer my other group chats over to Whatsapp or Slack. I particularly like Slack for this, which has a lot more functionality anyway because it was built as a work solution in a closed universe, not for social media.

I had to log in to FB the other day when I got a new phone so I could get Messenger up and running, and I swear the first notification I got from FB on my phone was it recommending that I friend my high school boyfriend who thoroughly messed me up for years, THE most toxic and abusive person I have ever dated. Thanks, Zuck!!!

If you looking for a very secure safe messaging platform.  Check out signal. A buddy of mine who is a vet turned me onto it. Very popular with the military.

I think I need to take a 30 day FB break.

Ps I don't open or click on anything that comes thru FB messenger

LOL, if I can't get my grandma to switch to Whatsapp, I don't think she'll switch to Signal. But I appreciate the thought!

I like Slack because I can always check when my husband is online at work. :P I see the green dot and if he doesn't reply relatively quickly, I know I'm being ignored.

Edit to add: I'm not even that big a fan of Whatsapp because of the FB ownership.
