Is it ok to register to vote a few days before naturalization ceremony?

Absolutely NOT OK.  Registering to vote BEFORE you are a US citizen is a quick way to get your naturalization denied, revoked, and deported.

When you register to vote, you are asserting that you are a US citizen.

You can not exercise the right of a citizen until you take the oath.

NO!

After you naturalize on Oct. 12, register in-person at the Board of Elections before the Oct. 23 deadline: https://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingDeadlines.html

If honorably discharged from the US Military or have become a naturalized US Citizen after October 8, 2021, you may register in person at the Board of Elections up until October 23, 2021.

I see that New York general election voter registration deadline is October 8. My naturalization ceremony is scheduled for October 12. Election will be on November 2, when I am going to be a citizen already.

Is it ok to register on October 8?

Any pointers to applicable laws and cases are appreciated!

There might be stands somewhere in or around the oath ceremony venue for you to register to vote.

Needless to say, it is not OK to register to vote at any point before you become a citizen -which happens just after you've taken the oath and have your certificate of citizenship in hand-.

NOOO...registering to vote is you making a declaration that you're a US Citizen when you are not. Ultimately that could result in deportation and permanent inadmissibility with no hope of a waiver. False claim to US Citizenship is the absolute worst thing you can do as a noncitizen in the US.

Why would you think so? I can’t understand why people will risk jeopardizing everything after a long stressful journey with a poor decision.

Voting and registering to vote is for US citizens PERIOD.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

THAT'S A BIG NO

Funny thing: I did register a couple hours after my naturalization, not thinking I would be allowed to vote the very next day. I don't know how it works in NY, but here in California, I was able to cast a provisional ballot (pending the verification of my registration), and I was able to track it and it ended up being counted. Couldn't have been a better timing...

Election-day registration is not currently possible in NY because of Article II, § 5 of New York's constitution: "Laws shall be made for ascertaining, by proper proofs, the citizens who shall be entitled to the right of suffrage hereby established, and for the registration of voters; which registration shall be completed at least ten days before each election. Such registration shall not be required for town and village elections except by express provision of law."

Actually one of the ballot proposals for the Nov. 2, 2021 NY election is "Eliminating Ten-Day-Advance Voter Registration Requirement"

The measure would amend Section 5 of Article II of the New York Constitution. The following struck-through text would be deleted:

Laws shall be made for ascertaining, by proper proofs, the citizens who shall be entitled to the right of suffrage hereby established, and for the registration of voters; which registration shall be completed at least ten days before each election. Such registration shall not be required for town and village elections except by express provision of law.
