Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has experience expediting their visa through NVC. I received my notice of approval through USCIS June 2, 2021 and the embassy in Montreal is backlogged (looks like they're about 7 months behind). This is obviously creating a lot of issues so we sent an email to attempt to expedite the visa from NVC to the embassy in Montreal. It has been about 5 weeks since the email has been sent and I haven't received a response. I called and waited on hold for 2 hours only for them to say they have not looked at the expedite request yet.

Did you submit your evidence to support an expedite?

From memory ie not sure I thought the Consulate requests the K1 to be sent to them when they have availability.

Yes I did

The Consulate does request the K1 to be sent when they have availability which is part of the reason for the expedite if it is approved NVC sends it to the consulate immediately

There are reasons for the expedite I'm just not comfortable sharing them here

You’re in a queue with all of the thousands of others with valid reasons to expedite.   All you can do is wait.

Hi, I submitted my expedite request on July 28 and received a response on Monday. However, I emailed the consulate directly last week and they responded within a couple days with a denial. But, the NVC notified me on Monday and the consulate in Montreal requested more information, so. Idk what is going to happen.

Honestly, just try emailing the consulate directly. You’ll hear back within a couple days. This process has been incredibly frustrating, so I get it ahaha

What I have been seeing is 2 to 3 month response just from NVC that they sent the response to Embassy so it will be a while for you.

That is my understanding,  too.  For K-1s, NVC already expedites cases.  They do nothing other than assign a case number and send them when the consulate wants them.  I would think that requesting through the consulate would be more appropriate.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Just be prepared for not much from montreal. Last year many of us from last year tried to expedite and montreal has a reputation for being an incredibly hard consulate to get an expedite from.

not impossible. but extremely difficult. You may or may not have luck expediting through the NVC but again with Montreal… hard to say.

Good luck!
