Being a self-employed person, I can't get an employment letter, hope this is NOT a problem for the K1-visa interview. Anyone experienced or thoughts.

Thanks.

Employment letter is I think not necessary if your self-employed during the K-1 interview. Your income tax of the previous year is sufficient to support the document needed by the Embassy. I have same case of yours. My husband is self-employed and during the submission of documents required by the embassy for my K1 case, I just presented to them my husband's recent income tax. I suggested to send to your fiancee all documents that prove you can support her financially when she is in the US. Hope I give some insights...Good luck and god bless. Remember...if we able to do it...i am sure you both also can do it.

I wish the instructions were taken seriously by the embassies all over the world, per the instructions no one is need to carry 3 years of tax returns, however everyone is carrying 3 yrs tax returns. Go figure.... Hence I'm sending 3 yrs tax returns too :-)

It's helpful to understand that there are minimum requirements as stated on the form, and best practices based on what Consular officers tend to ask for. It is the Consular officer that must be satisfied as to the public charge concerns. Nevertheless, it is a balancing act. For those with plenty of income, there is no need to disclose and provide supporting documentation for assets.

I have always read that three years returns were required if you were self employed and one if you were an employee. I have a feeling they look much harder at the information supplied when the fincancial situation may be in question. If you are showing a good income and a sound financial picture they will hardly glance at it. If you have an income bordering on the minimum then expect some close examination of your proofs.

journeyman,

You, like many others, seem to think the the I-134 sets the documentary requirements for meeting the public charge provisions of the law for K-visa applicants. It does not.
