I'm a fan of gas / electric hybrids, so I think she could have picked a better representative socialist symbol to blow up!  😄

My BIL, a socialist, 😁 bought a first generation Prius and drove it into the ground for 10 years.  Way over 200k miles on it when he sold it and bought a new one.

Me, a conservative, bought at 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid brand new.  6 cylinder, 3.0 L, 250 hp, 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.  35 mpg cruising at 70 mph.  I took a transfer to Germany right after that and took it with me.  Took it all over Europe for the next four years, usually filled with coworker travelling companions.  Speed limited to 212 kph, it was solid at 180-200 kph on long autobahn drives.  I took it back to the U.S. in 2010, then sold it to my sis in 2012, who sold it in 2016.  Still looked like new and never had any problems.  Best car I have ever owned.

There is more to the story so I will try to find out!  My sister advertised it for sale, and a childhood friend of mine, who I had not seen in 40 years, answered the ad and bought it!  A few years later they were in an accident and it was totaled!  No major injuries and I don't think any explosions!

Starting to look for a car for the wife, and with her driving habits, an EV would work.  However, looking at the numbers on the fuel usage today, the cost of electricity, the price difference between comparable vehicles, the added cost to put a level 2 charger in, it would take about 18 years to break even, accounting for rebates.  I think we will stay with the gasoline powered vehicle.

That is a good reason to check out the hybrids!

Baiting reported.

70% of all new sales by 2030 are projected to be hybrid.

The new hybrid corolla.  Around 25k and 52 mpg

I think the Prius will fade as most all other models have a hybrid now.

Hybrids have a lower costs of ownership and higher predicted reliability than non hybrid counterparts.

Hybrid batteries on Toyotas have a 10 year 150 k warranty.

Note.  New cars are really rare now days

I agree, I wish there was more emphasis on hybrids and diesels (yes, diesels can be environmentally friendly if done properly and also if we see more renewable diesel available) instead of most companies completely focusing themselves on the politically correct EV.  Overall, I am not against EVs, there is a market for them, and if they make sense for people both from a use case perspective and economically, why not.  Of course some of the recent publicity on EV fires and limitations is not doing much to instill confidence in them.

An EV would be fine for daily commute etc. No way I would have one for trips.

They are starting to make plug in hybrids that can go a short distance 30-40 miles without a charge before the engine kicks in.

I completely agree.  We are heading to Utah this weekend, in no way would I ever consider taking an EV.  So 1,400 to 1,500 miles, with a 200-250 mile range EV that takes 45-60 minutes to get about 200 miles of extended range would add a minimum of 5 hours to the trip overall.  This assumes an overnight charging stop, if traveling straight through than at least 6 more hours.  I can get there with 2-3 5-10 minute fuel stops.

I think the 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid batteries had a 7 or 8 year warranty.  It started going bad when my sister had it, and even though it was out of warranty, Honda replaced it for free.  That model of Accord Hybrid was only produced for 2 years and then they killed it.  The new Accord Hybrids introduced years later only had a 4 banger, but with the increase in technologies over the years, it still has good power.

How about that 50 caliber?  😁  Back on topic!
