Using IRS Tax Receipts In Place of 1099's for I-864

Hello,

My immigrant wife and I are getting ready to send in our paperwork for Adjustment of Status.  I'm getting ready to fill out the paperwork for the I-864 and it mentions to include all proof of income for the last 3 years.  I do not have all of the 1099 forms I've received during this time readily available.  Does anyone know if including IRS Tax receipts (the kind you would get from irs.gov after your tax return was approved) would suffice for individual 1099 forms, or is it necessary to include both?  I only ask because it'd be much easier to just use my tax receipts instead of collecting individual paperwork.

Thank you.

Did your wife arrive to the US on a K1 visa? I need to move this to the right AOS forum, this isn’t the correct forum for your question.

To answer your question, if you mean tax return  transcripts, then yes you may use those and they’re preferable instead of 1099 and W2s.

~ Moved from K1 forum to AOS from K1/K3 process - fiancé visa process is over and now has to do with AOS ~

Is there any official documentation that you know of with regards to how one can be used in place of the other, or is it just common knowledge?

On page 8 (Item 23a-25) of the instructions it says the following:

“You must provide either an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent years.
You are not required to have the IRS certify the transcript or photocopy unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official; a plain transcript or photocopy is acceptable.”

Plus, 1099 and W2 would be a lot of pages that could be misplaced or lost while transcripts are couple of pages long, so it’s more convenient. When I was preparing my packet I read here that almost everyone provided tax return transcripts. Hope this helps.
