Second Interview

After waiting for close to two months on Administrative Processing, my fiancé received a call from the consulate requesting a " short" second interview.  This was a total shock to us. Why would a second interview be necessary? Does anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas what to expect?

Any help is very much appreciated.

I have seen second interviews happen sometimes.  There is nothing to worry about at this point.  Maybe they want to clarify a question.

Thank you for the response. I’m trying to calm her down. But she’s very worried. Never expected a second interview.

Sometimes it's just  procedural - they forgot to administer an oath and before that's done they can't issue a visa.

Second interviews for K1 visa in Morocco are not common. It's good that they are asking for a second interview instead of continuing in AP and letting your application expire. Typically 2nd interviews are to address red flags. What was his interview like? Which area did they focus most on? That will typically tell what they're questioning on the 2nd interview.

Thank you for the response. It is very helpful. My fiancé said the CO repeatedly asked if I was American. Was she sure I am American. Several times. I mean, they see my passport and birth certificate right there in the file.

Were you born in the US?

OP-

My ex wife and I were asked to come for a second interview. We had many red-flags. Our case was for IR-1 visa, out of India. It was very shocking and surprising that local US consulate called me in US (and to my ex wife in India) and asked me to go all the way different side of globe in India to appear for the interview. Immigration laws don’t require petitioner or US citizen-spouse (me) to attend interview at abroad, but I was still asked. Further, the request for second interview came almost one and half year being on AP. We had stoke interview wherein my ex wife and I were separated, and asked at least 15 same questions to see the consistency...Out of those 15 questions some were-What kind of car I have in US, names of two witnesses who were at our court wedding, what I like about my ex and what I don’t like about her, What are her hobbies, and we were also asked our favorite sexual position while making love...Yes, they did ask from both of us...and the consular officer was young white woman...

my thinking is this is a good sign

unusual for Morocco ,  yes

but keep her calm,   tell her its good as they give her a new chance

if they were going to deny the visa,  they would do it without a new interview

and u are allowed to send the embassy an email with an attachment showing your US residency to back her up

trust me,  i sent an email myself in support of my husband

"short second interview"  they may need to have her pay the visa fee or get her passport if they didn't keep it after the 1st

watch that date of her medical as she would need to travel within 6 months of that date (if visa approved)

allah yessir

Yes, I was; as were my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, et al. That’s why I was confused about that line of questioning.

They already have my fiancé’s passport. As for the medical, it was done exactly two months ago. So, we are keeping an eye on that. I tried to explain to my fiancé that it is at least another chance. But because people are saying how unusual this is, it’s hard to calm her down.

Thanks for the information and well wishes. Amin.

unusual yes,  but they would not have collected the visa fee at that time,   right?   she didn't pay out any money to Casa embassy?

then they need to call her back to collect it and they have to see in person to reaffirm her ID/  they will even fingerprint her again for ID

and have her take the oath /  Casa does it every time a person comes in

she can relax

Since only your wife (beneficary) is asked to appear for the second interview then I would say that its a good sign. It couldn’t be stoke interview wherein both parties are requested to appear like what happened in my case. If I were you guys then I wouldn’t worry much about it...It could be just to be asking some documents which might have lost in the file or just a question or two to get final clarification. I have read a few interview experiences on here wherein some people were asked for a second interview just to ask only one question which was about an engagement photo that parties submitted or some other photographs which seemed a marriage kinda setting to consular officers...So, those officers requested to appear for second interview just to get clarification on that one question. So don’t be worry...It would be just for one or two questions or documents..That’s all..

What was the outcome of the second interview?

As I have said earlier that our case had many red-flags...such as I was married multiple times before...got GC to some of my ex wives...age gap between my ex and I was big...she was just 18...I had no job and no history of work whatsoever as I always worked under the table/off the books...and at that time I was living as a roommate/friend with one of my ex-wives who was supporting me and she had filed joint I-864 for my current wife at that time...So all this seemed very odd to consular officer and to people in US consulate. However, all these situations were never a problem to USCIS as I was able to get GC to some of my ex wives without a hitch in the past. Then I also know that in US, immigration officers have 5-10 minutes at most to close out a case, unlike at US consulate especially in India wherein 10 different people will read and review every single wording and line on the file...would make a memorandum for the officer in few lines to describe the whole case...Consular officers will just read that memorandum..they don’t have time to read the whole file...It’s just that I should have known better how things handle at US consulates...because my mom’s GC application went thru the same scrutiny wherein just for a little thing she was banned for life just because she once came to US on a tourist visa but worked for a month on that visa. Could you imagine she was banned for life even though that incident occurred 20 yrs back?

Back to my ex wife’s case...after her first interview, which was then for CR-1, her case was placed on AR...And when we didn’t hear anything from them for more than a year, I contacted my Congresspeople...As a result, we were asked, both of us, to appear at US consulate for 2nd interview...and on the other side, US consulate referred the matter back to USCIS to investigate more about me and my prior marriages...So, 4 immigration officers/fraud investigators appeared at my house in NY in the middle of night from local USCIS field office. They asked me all kinds of questions and demanded all kinds of documents from me and from one of my ex wives whom I was living with at that time. They even took pictures of all our bedrooms...bathroom..everything...Rather than focusing on my relationship with my current wife at that time whose case was pending, they were more focused on my relationship with my ex whom I was living with at that time...round and round they were just going to my relationship with my ex I was living with...like what we do together...do we date each other...do we go out of outing...mingle with each other families....I know why all those interrogations was as I am not naive. I understand immigration laws that whenever you file a case on marriage based, then all previous immigration cases based on marriage will be re-visited...I have been around here for 30 yrs...So I know all this...

Anyway,  after a few month later of second interview, we didn’t hear anything from US consulate and my ex wife died while giving birth.
