Hi all. My girlfriend is visiting from America next month. We originally thought it would be an easy process for her to just fly over for ten days then fly back. But after finding this site and reading peoples experiences I'm a little confused and scared. Would my girlfriend need to show ties back to America just for this little trip or would she be ok? If she does need to prove ties to America this would not be a problem, we would just like to know in advance so we can start preparing for that! This will be our first time meeting in person. Any advice would be much appreciated please and thankyou!

Don't confuse american visiting with someone visiting the US

Americans can travel without restrictions for 90 days unless country is restricted to us / most countries we don't even need a tourist visa

a foreigner wanting a tourist visa to come to the US has the restrictions to show ties to home country

This site deals with US immigration matters.  Check the laws in your country.

I posted on the UK thread as I thought that would be the correct place to ask next, as I am requiring information on the UK side of the border, as you mentioned above the site deals with US immigration matters. :) But noted, thanks

No, that is not common when visiting the UK.

Easy? There’s rules for Covid testing before flying. Pre-boking your 2 UK testings prior to arrival, locator forms to fill out, and covid tests prior to departing the UK back to America. Check the latest rules. They change.

Alright thanks, that's what we wanted to know.

Maybe easy was the wrong word to use during pandemic times. We understand with regards to testing etc.

Thanks for the reply!

It’s been very easy for me every time I’ve visited my husband who lives in the UK (and just as easy to do so before we were married). UK border is very seamless to go through, in my experience. I did not have to provide any type of proof of my ties to the US. It was two or three super quick questions - why are you visiting the UK, how long are you staying, and when was the last time you visited. Thankfully nothing like when my husband visited me in the US for the first time and had to sit in an interview room with US Border for 20 min lol.
