I got my green card a week ago. I don't have an SSN. Do I wait for it to come in the mail or contact the SSA?

During my AOS interview, the interviewer checkmarked something on his computer that asked whether I am requesting an SSN. My I-131 and I-765 forms were closed by USCIS because "the applicant or petitioner received a status or benefit through other means".

Inputting my alien number on the SAVE Case Check website returns "No cases found that match the search criteria." so I believe the SSA offices haven't accessed my case.

So, should I just wait to see whether I get my SSN in the mail? Or should I contact the SSA office?

Did you receive your GC?

Production of the GC initiates production of the new I485 requested SSN.

You can go to the SSA office to check if your number is being processed.

The sooner you get it, the better.

Our local office was able to see over the phone that a request was never put in for an SSN, despite checking the correct box.

Definitely call your local office first to see what is the situation.

Do they know something that the SAVE Case Check wouldn't? Thanks!

Yes! Almost 2 weeks ago. How do I know if the production has been initiated?

Local SSA won't have that info.

SSA Headquarters in MD may so you can only call.
