but there are many people (the elderly, people with medical conditions) who are at significant risk of death.

Yes.  What's new?  That is one reason the U.S. is impacted so greatly.  A very unhealthy population.  It is a stretch to call obesity a comorbidity yet I think I read that obesity in the #1 comorbidity in people who died where Covid was involved.

Need to get this back on topic.  Open another topic for U.S. general vaccine policy, if one does not exist.  This topic is about St. Lukes medical requirements.

Regarding that, teacher, you don't seem to realize that it is not easy to get a vaccine in some countries like the Philippines.  That is my dilemma.  We had to pull some strings to get my wife vaccinated.  She is mid-40s with no real commodities.

We can't just walk-in to Walgreens and get the shot here.  I'm going to have to see how this all applies to my 17 year old.  She can get a Pfizer jab in the U.S. but is that a requirement for her to immigrate?  I would guess that she is a year away from getting jabbed in PH, unless something changes soon.

We understand that not all age categories have been approved to receive the vaccine and those cases may be eligible to receive a waiver. However, effective October 1, if you are over the age of 35, you will be required to show proof of vaccination to immigrate to the United States.

So seems like anyone over 35.

@AKteacher would you be surprised to know that Dr. Robert Malone the inventor of the mRNA vaccine does not recommend that everyone get vaccinated? In fact he said that it could be quite dangerous? If you do some searching you could probably find his recent 2 part interview online. Would he be a reputable source according to you?

Can you tell me how people are tested for the Delta variant? Would you be surprised that they can't test for it and that the Delta variant is based on estimates?

Who's to say your sources are reputable and anyone that disagrees with you does not use reputable sources? That's putting everyone in a box again to make them easy to dismiss.

Is that the Robert Malone who's pushing Ivermectin? By the way, he isn't "the inventor" of the mRNA vaccines - literally hundreds of scientists (possibly more) contributed to the invention of these vaccines. Not sure I'd call him reputable since his views are clearly outside the mainstream scientific consensus.

Science isn't based on consensus. Centuries ago the scientific consensus was that the earth was flat and was the center of the universe. That doesn't make it so. Back then just like today scientists who are correct but don't share the mainline view on a given subject are ridiculed or worse.

Ridiculous. People who thought the earth is flat, etc., weren't practicing science as we know it today. It was the church that persecuted Galileo and Copernicus, who were the scientists, and they were correct then as they are now.

Science is very much based on consensus. The entire peer-review process (which has served us very well) works.

Perhaps what you meant to say is that science isn't based on public opinion. I would agree with that. Perhaps less talk radio and right wing news would be in order for many people.

Literally, and possibly are very general terms. So exactly how many? What was his specific role or contribution? I wouldn't say he is pushing Ivermectin but I believe he does recommend it. So that makes him a non reputable source according to you? It's a well known tactic that when people can't counter an argument people instead try to condemn the  source. What about the rest of what I said? You kinds skipped that.

I'm not even going to bother debating the specifics of Ivermectin and Robert Malone. Given your apparent lack of understanding about how science works, I don't think it would be worth my time. Thank you for your posts thus far. I'm going to end it here since we're off-topic on this thread. Have a nice day.

Unless they could get the J&J 1 dos jab, that would not be practical and would be very costly for many people.  Many who go to St. Lukes have to travel from very far away, incurring travel and hotel costs.  For a 2 dose vaccine, that would mean 2 trips.

There are some other multi-dose vaccines that are required as well - Hep series, maybe others. When my wife had her medical exam there, they administered the first dose, then she got the following doses after coming to the US.

but seriously though focusing on the fact that that the COVID vaccine is not readily available here in the Philippines to anyone who wants to be vaccinated as there is a priority group which the LGU follows. If one does not fall to any of that priority group, how then will one be able to complete the SLEC medical if one is not vaccinated. They say that they will give priority for OFWs but we don't fall on that category, we are "to migrate". What are the best steps to take just to complete the medical? Heard SLEC does not provide COVID vax yet.

Well the USA has given the Philippines $39 millions US Dollars Covid Aids Assistance since the start of the pandemic as of today, and I am sure they will give them much more money.  They should make Johnson & Johnson one shot available at St. Lukes for anyone going to the USA.   You already have to pay over $300 US Dollars which is paying USA prices for Philippine Service.
