K1 US dog entry ban

The veterinarian said that she can only put one name on the rabies vaccination and on the titers test documents. Would it be better to have my name as the US citizen as the owner of the dog or my fincee's (Brazillian) name as the owner?

Any luck with the CDC waiver? We should receive our K1 this week and are ready to apply.

To answer your question, I'm not sure it matters, but our vet was willing to put both of our names.

We have not applied for the waiver yet. We just received the documentation from the titers test. I will be submitting the application next week.

The Veterinarian would only put one name on the paper work and the name had to be that of the Brazilian. She insisted that no veterinarians in Brazil would use both the American and the Brazilians names. I guess we’ll see what the CDC has to say.

I can't imagine they will make a fuss. The situation should be clear and the owner's name from the vet doesn't change the underlying reality of what we are trying to accomplish. In the narrative, I am going to refer to them as "our dogs" and include copies of both of our passport pages. I also asked the vet to fill out US style (in English) rabies certificates with a few additions (CPF, country, more vet info, etc). You're welcome to it if you think it will help.

Would you mind updating your progress here when they accept? There's so little information out there about the people who are going through this process.

The US style rabies certificate would be helpful. Do you have a blank copy you could share?

i will provide updates here.

As an FYI, i am not sure what delivery method you chose for the visa. We chose to have ours sent to the local ASC and it was received there 8 business days after our visa status changed to issued. Something else we did not realize at the time is we had to schedule an appointment to pick up the visa at the ASC, so visa was in hand 14 days after “issued” status.

Did they notify you when the visa was en route? We used their 'premium delivery' option (Correios, apparently) to send to her house but we have received no communication from them. The only indication that we have is the CEAC status.

No, unfortunately their was no notification until 10 days later when the local ASC sent am email indicating that they had the visa and we needed to make an appointment to pick it up. The status never changed from issued. I remember reading somewhere that the delivery company would provide a tracking number for the home deliveries.

Just thought I’d update you - two weeks to the day the CDC has approved all three dog permits. Exciting given that I’m sitting in an airport right now about to board a flight to São Paulo.

So we just arrived today in the US. My notes:

- United changed our airline from Houston to Chicago. I don’t know if it made a difference, but I emailed the CDC and they reissued our waivers within 24 hours.

- Traveling with 3 dogs in the cabin was a nightmare. I will never bring a dog on another plane again. After we reached Chicago we opted to rent a car and drive the rest of the way rather than make our connection. The dogs hated it, we hated it, and everyone around us must have also hated it.

- When we landed in Chicago we almost didn’t go to the CDC station to have the paperwork checked. We had 8 luggage and asked a porter to help us and he sent us over to the CDC. But at no time before or after that did anyone ask about the dogs’ paperwork. The only time we were forced to present their paperwork was at the ticketing counter.

Congratulations on your arrival, and sympathies regarding what sounds like a genuinely nerve-wracking experience.  Your post will be enlightening and valuable to many others here, so thank you.  Sounds like it's time for man and beast to decompress! :)

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
