Can a sponsor move overseas after getting green card?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know if a sponsor/joint sponsor (not petitioner) can move out of the US after the beneficiary gets their green card? I understand the sponsor needs to be living in the US while applying for the visa, but I was wondering if it's also true for after beneficiary becomes LPR too?

I tried researching online but couldn't find info about after getting the green card so any info is appreciated!!

Having legal commitments in or towards the U.S. does not prevent one from moving abroad.  That applies to sponsors, too.

In general, the United States are picky about who they let in, but they will hardly ever prevent anybody from leaving, except for criminal cases and maybe some other rare circumstances.

btw, don't need to be living in the US while applying for the visa.   Depending on country that the interview will be in, determines if the sponsor needs to be in USA,  but that can wait until after the NVC stage is DQ'd.   The requirement is that the sponsor has to be in the USA or travel with the beneficiary when they come to the USA using their CR1/IR1 visa.

You seem to be interchanging the terms "sponsor" and "petitioner".  A "joint sponsor" needs to be living in the USA, when submitting the affidavit of support.  A petitioner is always the primary sponsor, but is NOT required to live in the USA, except for (as you say above) entering with or before the visa holder.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
