It arrived no bother with the big black letters stamped on the front saying not to open it. But I've just noticed that it was sent out with the opening and one side sellotaped up. So who is to say I didn't steam it open and reseal it?

I always use tape too for extra security when sending things. The glue is never brilliant on large envelopes so hopefully it'll be easy to explain.

There's a wee bit of wear and tear. God knows how, it has been kept in the courier plastic bag for two months! These are only a few millimetres long but it's an awful long way to go only to get someone really pedantic sending me straight back 😬

It will all be fine. They aren’t going to be suspicious, and lots of people have had those little tears.  When are you leaving?

Here’s a POE nightmare I just thought about that happened to a guy in this very forum. He got to POE and when they opened his white envelope, it had some other bloke’s paperwork inside. 🙀

They wouldn’t show him the name because of privacy but said it was very similar to his. He thought he saw a fiancé name of Jessica when he was trying to look. They let him in without his paperwork and said they would sort it. Meanwhile there’s another guy in the UK waiting on his envelope and it’s at a US airport. We posted on VJ something like “Is there anybody on here in the UK with a name very similar to David Jones and a fiancé named Jessica?” (forgot real names,). Your paperwork is in New York. He actually replied and the two got together by email and helped get it sorted faster that the officials would have. I think they had identical names. Crazy story!

Thank you. I knew I remembered a thread or two about that issue but couldn't find them using the Search.

Middle of next week with an eighteen hour layover in Amsterdam airport 😮

Well apparently there is a lot you can do in Schiphol, and I'll definitely sleep through most of the U.S flight so there's that!

I'm just using airline extra baggage for my personal things and thank you again for the very useful posts I've seen recently in that regard too.

Wow, that is crazy! I hope it was sorted reasonably quickly.

I think being in touch with each other helped. The POE had some convoluted plan. Once the guy still in the UK knew the name details, he was able to contact the embassy and say his paper work was given to [a specific name, birthdate, and case number] and where it currently was. So considering they let the first guy through POE with no paperwork ought to make you relax over a beat up envelope.

Have a good trip. That layover is punishing!
