I am starting to think that term life insurance (http://www.loansuggest.com/insurance) is a waste of money. When you consider that only 2% of term policies ever pay out, it seems to be true.

ROP terms can be an alternative but often one can get a better return on the additional premiums on his own so you're subject to opportunity costs as well as insurance costs.

Universal and indexed universal seem to be good alternatives but then again they cost more.

Any opinions?

That is what you term protection...level term that the same applies for 10 years.

Who life policies are a farce....charge you more for the same protection under the guise that you build up cash value. This cash value is your excess premiums that ypo pay that give you about a 4% rate of return....Buy the straight term, and invest the difference in no-load mutual funds. You will come out way ahead over a period of 10 years for example....If something happens...you still have the protction.

Most companies offer group rates....even cheaper.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Keep it simple, term insurance is buyng you protection, depends what you need, why and for how long.

The more complicated products add investment into the equation, usually there ae better alternatives.

If I bought Term Insurance I would be rather hoping I would be one of the 98%.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

This is, at best, way off topic on any of the immigration sections of VisaJourney. Maybe on the off-topic board?

That said, ALL insurance is a gamble, and the insurance companies usually win. That's how they pay for those big skyscrapers and expensive TV advertisements. The best bet is to buy only that insurance that you actually need, and do comparison shopping, comparing apples to apples. The more you complicate things by combining insurance with investments with loans, etc., the more the insurance companies will take you for. It's their game, and they are better at it than you are. They will win.

So if you need life insurance, shopping around for the best term policy is usually a pretty good bet. It lets you keep only the insurance you actually need, for the term during which you actually need it.

And you always hope your life insurance doesn't pay out.
