I will be traveling for work in the Philippines between September- November. Not sure of the travel dates yet. I've read some travelers not accepted in their connecting airports even when they have their extension letter and expired green card.

-Who has experience traveling to Philippines with an extension letter?

 

 

Not only do you not need an I-551 stamp; they will not issue one if the extension letter is still valid.

Thanks. I am just darn worried as the immigration folks in airports are unpredictable. I think of the worst case scenarios so I can plan ahead. This is a work travel that I do not want to compromise just because of some inconsistencies even when we have complete and correct paperwork. Sigh. I wish us all the best and see more approvals!

It will expire in Sep 2023 .. Before Booking flight for my wife  to fly to Turkey through Amsterdam  connection flight .. so I called Netherlands Embassy in DC to verify if the 24 month extension letter will suffice with expired Green Card .. the Embassy lady insisted that they will send her back  since the card expired and they will not consider any extension letter !! So we cancelled the trip ! Thats Netherlands a modern European country!!!

I wouldn’t be worried from the airlines but what Make worried when an embassy or immigration visa officer in Turkey or Amsterdam would deny entry cause the card expired and they don’t consider extension letter !

Exactly. The feedback I got yesterday was someone was denied in Qatar airport. It was a connecting flight. Now the person was ordered to go back to his home country in Vietnam.

I really surprised when I called Amsterdam Embassy in Washington D.C. and their answer was  No extension letter can be considered. Expired card is not valid , will send her back ! and i challenged her with alot of questions and why the US immigration extension letter wouldn’t be considered valid since its extending the validity of the expiry date on the card ?! Embassy employee insisted they won’t consider the extension letter !

The main problem I think are the immigration people in other countries, not the immigration officers when you enter the states.

Yes, they do. It should be on their website as to what documentation you’re allowed to show to be able to board. If you wanted to, you can print it and show it in their faces. They cannot allow you entry if your extension letter is still valid.

That person seems to have the wrong information. I’m on vacation right now and will be returning to the US with my expired green card and extension letter. The extension letter extends the validity of the green card, it’s valid.

Show them this document. This is the carrier guide, this is what they should abide, not some hearsay Carrier guide

If you’re worried, show them the Carrier guide. This is what they should abide, not some hearsay

I flew last year with extension lettet through Qatar with Qatar airways,they asked me for my expired green card and extension letter. All was good

Can you clarify? Did you mean Netherlands embassy?
